A Break Down Of The Best E Cigarettes In The UK By Category
There are a number of options for all types of vaper, we have a wide selection of reviews for each. To see the full reviews of each category use the drop down menu at the top of this page.
- Mini e cigs – also known as cig-a-likes
- EGO E Cigarettes – also known as EGO’s, E Pens, Tank e cigs, Vaporisers and EVODS
- Box Mods / APV’s (Advanced Personal Vaporiser) – Generally higher powered devices that allow for more flexibility in terms of how you vape. There is a learning curve but the results can be fantastic.
Mini E Cigs
With the introduction of improved EGO tank e cigs, mini box mods and APV’s the cig-a-like has decreased a little in popularity over the last couple of years. It is, however, still an important stepping stone for many smokers making the switch who want an e cig that looks like a tobacco cigarette. They certainly look the part and are super portable and can be used by complete beginners with little fuss due to their two part design.
They consist of a battery and a cartomiser. The battery is the main body of the e cig. The cartomiser has the coils and wick built in and are generally pre filled with e liquid (although some brands you can refill with e-liquid) these simply screw into the battery ready for use. When the cartomiser is empty you can simply replace or refill depending on the type of e cig.
There are downsides to mini e cigs that you need to keep in mind when choosing an e cig.
You will trade size for battery life. The batteries don’t last as long as other types of e cig although this can be offset by a PCC (portable charging case). While the vapour volume can be good it will all depend on the product you choose as some can be a let down.
It has to be taken into account that mini e cigs aren’t thought to be the best e cigarettes to use as a way to quit smoking. Surveys have shown that smokers are more likely to quit if they start with vape Pen style electronic cigarettes. So keep this in mind.
I personally started on cig-a-likes before moving onto vape pens and box mods. For me, I was more concerned about having something that was small, inconspicuous and resembled a cigarette. The thought of a bulky device didn’t interest me one bit when I first started vaping. That has of course changed today. As long as you can quit smoking then it really doesn’t matter what type of e cigarette you use to achieve this.

What are the best mini e cigarettes in the UK?
V2 Cigs are a big USA based brand that have been available in the UK for a number of years. They have a great selection of beginner vape kits that offer something for most vapers.
The thing we love about their kits is that the cartomisers produce fantastic flavour and vapour volume considering they are mini’s. The setup is as near as you are going to get in terms of ‘cigarette looks’ as well, they have designed the battery and cartomiser to resemble the real thing.
If you are buying for yourself then you can’t go wrong with either the EX Series or the Shisha Pen UK Kit, the EX Series has one battery and 6 cartridge refills while the Shisha kit has one battery, a refillable tank and a 25ml bottle of e-liquid to start you off.

Jacvapour V1P Starter Kit
A superb starter kit, voted "Best Mini E Cigarette" two years running in the ecigclick awards. The Jacvapour V1P starter kit has everything you need to get started. We especially love the slick portable charging case (PCC) that comes with the kit. This simply allows you to have a battery charging when on the move! Plug the battery into the PCC, slip it into your pocket and away you go!
Jacvapour also allow you to buy ‘blank’ cartomisers. These are basically empty cartomisers allowing you to choose the e liquid to fill your e cig with. Simple. The great thing is that Jac Vapour have some wonderful UK made e liquids available to buy.

Vape Pens / EGO E Cigarettes
There are a numerous names for this category of e cig. You may have heard them called Vape Pens, EGO’s, Pen Style e cigarettes, vaporiser, Tank Refill systems or maybe something else.
For vapers that started on mini e cigarettes these are the devices that many will move onto. They are classed as a 2nd generation e cig and a step up from the cig-a-like, still formed with two main components.
So what’s different with these e cigs?
There are two main differences. The first is the battery. Vape pens will last considerably longer than mini’s. The batteries are also available with a variable voltage function, this allows the user to increase/decrease the heat sent to the coil. This in turn provides a warmer (increased vapour) or cooler vape (less vapour) allowing the user to tailor their vaping experience.
The second is the clearomiser or tank that you screw into the battery. These can be refilled yourself and in some cases only the coil head needs to be replaced, not the whole clearomiser. They not only provide superior vapour and flavour but it opens you up to thousands of flavour options to try and can be a lot cheaper in the long run.
If you don’t have your heart set on a mini e cig then I would recommend starting your e cig journey in this category.

Some of the Best Vape Pens We Have Reviewed
Jacvapour Series E
The Jacvapour Series E is another fantastic product from this trusted brand, definitely one of our top picks for the best e cigarette for 2015.
The Series E manages to pack a 1000 mAh battery into a small device and while it is slightly chunkier than their 510 EGO battery the length is pretty much the same. The battery life is suitable for all levels of vaper from light to heavy.
The device also offers three voltage settings for users to fine tune how they vape. Adding an Aerotank to the Series E creates a slim lined, superb looking e cig that sits perfectly in the palm of your hand.
We cover Jac Vapour reviews a lot on ecigclick mainly because we think they have their priorities straight. Producing high quality vaping gear that forms to EU regulations and treating the customers as king makes them one of our favourite vendors. This e cig review takes a look at one of their best devices to date.
Jacvapour 510 Starter Kit
Another Jacvapour e cig kit! Well I did mention their product is quality right?
Well the 510 starter kit is no different. These EGO battery kits are available in either a standard battery of a variable voltage option. Both are highly recommended but it depends on your needs which one.
The standard 510 is super lightweight and pretty tiny for an e cigarette with a 400 mah battery so great for carrying around in your pocket. There are other battery options available for the heavier papers amongst us so if that sounds like you then choose the 650mAh, 900 mAh or 1300 mAh options.
The starter kits come with everything you need to get going, two batteries, an EVOD 2 tank and charging cables. All you need to do is add e juice and vape.
V2 Cigs Series 3
The Series 3 from V2 Cigs is a bit of a ‘Jack of all trades’ and should probably be classed as a vaporiser. This is because it not only allows you to use e-liquid but you can also buy separate tanks that allow you to use dry herbs, oils and wax.
The e cig itself has in built technology that can detect the type of tank it has sitting on top and change it’s heating behaviour accordingly.
The battery has a 650 mah capacity and the whole e cig is built and designed in such a way that the tank drops into the top of the battery so the form of the e cigarette is seamless. Add magnetic connections to this and we have a smart vaporiser from V2 Cigs that would suit users that want to be able to vape different substances.
Box MODS / Vape Mods
Vape mods (or box mods) have burst onto the scene over the last year and 2015 has seen a huge number of devices hitting the shelves. I am a huge fan of these devices due to their huge battery capacities and ability to introduce you to a new world of e cigs. Sub Ohm vaping anyone?
If you are just starting out your e cig journey this may not be the best place to start. We recommend these as ‘step up’ devices and even then it is worth reading up a little on what these are capable of. We have a little sub ohm vaping guide here for those interested in learning more about this type of vaping.
There are some superb products though. There are box mods with replaceable batteries and devices with built in batteries. They pretty much all offer a variable voltage/wattage function with some going to 100W+. Overkill for many vapers, myself included but great for those into DIY and pushing the limits. Again it all depends on how you vape.
Many of our box mod reviews are of regulated devices which offer an extra layer of safety and control.
Our pick of the best vape mods can be found here.
Top Rated Box Mod / Vape Reviews
Eleaf iStick 50W
A fantastic box mod that packs in a 4400 mAh batter and power output upto 50W!
Currently the big brother of the iStick family it can also accommodate sub ohm vaping, firing down to 0.4 Ohm. Despite the impressive specs the 50W iStick is still super portable. I have personally taken this on many a night out without it getting in the way as it slips in and out of the pocket with ease.
Add the Subtank Mini, SMOK VCT or Eleaf Melo to this and you will find yourself with an A1 setup.
Innokin MVP 3
The Innokin MVP 3 was the eagerly awaited update to the MVP 2. Not the most adventurous names but one thing for sure is it didn’t disappoint. Bigger than the iStick by a fair distance but I for one love the build quality.
It’s arguably one of the best built box mods available and has specs to match. With a 3800 mAh battery, 30W power output and the capability to fire down to 0.4 Ohms it will fit the needs of a wide variety of vapers.
Oh… Did I mention there is a cable that pops out of the bottom of the device that will charge your phone? This has personally proved extremely useful to me on a number of occasions.Read our full Innokin MVP 3 Review here
