What To Expect From The Voopoo Argus P2…

This has been released at the same time as the Argus G2!

argus p2 banner

Inside the mod is a 1100mAh battery which is charged using the included USB Type C cable at a 2A charge rate. Sadly this does not have the super quick 18 minute charge time of the P1 kit.

argus p2 battery

Output wise it is stated as 5-30W. You have several user modes…

  • Power – this is a variable wattage mode where you can adjust the power manually.
  • Shift mode – this gives you a further 3 options…
  • SPT – for “full bodied flavour”
  • NOR – for optimum vaping experience
  • ECO – reduces battery and e-liquid consumption

A 0.54 inch OLED screen is provided to view all of your user data.

Also there are RGB LED lights which have 3 settings to choose from.

argus p2 light modes

On the side is an airflow adjustment slider to tailor the incoming airflow to your preference.

argus p2 airflow slider

To keep things simple this is an auto draw kit – when you inhale on the mouthpiece the device will automatically fire.

This kit includes the new and upgraded “Top Fill” Argus pods, which means you do not have to remove the pod to fill.

argus p2 top fill

This is also compatible with the previous fixed coil Argus Pod Cartridges plus the empty pods which use the ITO replaceable coils!

argus g2 pod options

You get the 0.4ohm and 0.7ohm pods included in the kit.

Design & Build Quality

I received the Pearl White version with the 2ml TPD compliant pods.

argus p2 front view

The box is quite compact but full of info and you slide this off to reveal the plastic tray which holds the device and a cardboard box with the accessories.

It safely transported the contents and a protection sticker is provided on the clear section of the device to protect from scratches etc.argus p2 protective sticker

A great quality ribbon style USB cable is included as well as a super funky Lanyard.

argus p2 cable

The Lanyard is a tricky to install through the provided holes on the side of the mod – after 5 minutes of trying I gave up!

argus p2 lanyard

You will see a verification sticker on the side of the box to check this is a genuine product. Either scan the QR code with your phone camera or input the code into the Voopoo Security Code Page.

The instructions are quite small but you can also view a digital copy of the instructions online which means you can zoom in for easier viewing!

Voopoo Argus P2 Mod

This is a square shaped mod which is mainly made from Zinc Alloy. The Zinc Alloy on my model has a Pearlescent White finish which is beautiful.

argus p2 finish

On 1/3 of the side of the mod is a tinted Black plastic area. Through this area you can see some of the circuitry and screen. I love to see the insides!

argus p2 transparent

One side of the mod features the “P2” and Voopoo logo etched into the metal and there are 2 visible screw heads.

argus p2 rear view

On the other side the “Argus” logo is embossed into the metal and has a super shiny Silver finish which is also Holographic when you tilt it.

argus p2 logo

Looking at the mod base you will see 2 more screw heads, the required legal logos and the USB Type C port.argus p2 base view

On the White side are the locating holes for the lanyard and the airflow adjustment slider. The slider is quite stiff to move so is unlikely to adjust itself by accident.argus p2 airflow side view

A function button is located on the top of the mod and it has a Silver surround which has a screw thread pattern. The button feels nice to the touch and has a reassuring clicky mechanism.

argus p2 button

The pod compartment is quite shallow so should be easy to clean in the case of any leaks or condensation.

argus p2 pod compartment

It is home to 2 spring loaded Gold coloured contacts and 2 strong magnets. There is no wobble to the pod when installed due to the strength of the magnets, but it is still easy to remove.

Screen / Display

The Screen and Display are is set into one side of the Black transparent section.

argus p2 screen view

At the top is the screen and below that are the 5 RGB LED indicator lights. You cannot see any of these until the button is pressed. The LED indicators also shine through the transparent side of the mod.

argus p2 LED displays

You can turn off the lights and / or the screen to suit your preference.

Argus Top Fill Pod Cartridge

The pod is the same as in the recently reviewed Voopoo Argus G – so I have copied and pasted this section over!

Argus G2 pod side view

As I still own the previous generation Argus G I have been able to compare the pods.

Both versions are very similar with the first generation (V1) having the side fill port and the new top fill (V2).

Argus G2 pod v g pod
Left = Top Fill (V2) Argus Pod, Right = Side Fill (V1) Argus Pod

The fill port cover is located on the side of the smooth mouthpiece section. A tiny weeny arrow points you to the bottom part of the cover which you prise up to access the fill port.Argus G2 open fill port

You can also rotate the cover out of the way for ease of filling.

The port measures around 5x4mm in an oval shape and I have had no issues filling with 10ml, 30ml and 50ml bottles.

Argus G2 fill port

The whole pod has a Black tint but it is still light enough to see the e-liquid level. Plus when the pod is installed in the mod you can see virtually all of the contents which is very impressive.

argus p2 eliquid view

On the lower 1/3 of the pod (the area inside the mod) are the Voopoo logos and Legal logos etched in.

Argus G2 pod markings

The pod resistance is etched into the fill port cover which is a bit difficult to see – my only real grumble about the pod.

Voopoo Argus P2 Quick Start Guide

This arrives with the 0.7ohm pod installed but you can of course select the 0.4ohm pod from the box. To prevent damage an isolator sticker is applied to the base of the 0.7ohm pod.Argus G2 pod isolator

Make sure to fill the pod with e-liquid before removing this sticker. If you don’t and you vape – this will burn the coil out and the pod will be scrap.

So you will need to fill and charge this to get going, but never fear I guide you through all these steps below.

And just so you know where all the parts are, here is a diagram of the device!

Screen

The screen display is categorised below.
argus p2 display

  • On the top is the battery level symbol, when full this is all White as shown above. When empty this will be Black inside. Also there is the percentage figure of battery charge remaining.
  • Output status refers to which mode is selected – SPT, NOR or ECO. We will cover the modes further in the review. If the “Power” mode is selected, the large number tells you the power output which is adjustable between 5 and 30W.
  • Next to this is the “W” symbol to denote “Watts” – the power measurement.
  • Further down is the resistance value. This is the coil or pod resistance and the “Ω” or Ohm symbol which denotes the unit of resistance.
  • The other value is the puff counter which counts the number of vapes you take. You can go into the menu to reset this to zero if you want. This is handy to keep track of coil or battery life or if you are just curious how much you vape!

Basic Operation

  • Enter the menu = Press the button 5 times to enter the menu. Short press the button to scroll through the options and long press to select option.argus p2 menu
  • Power On/Off = press the button 5 times to turn on / off.
  • Vaping = Inhale on the mouthpiece to activate the auto draw system.
  • Battery indicator = The screen will show the battery level icon.
  • Battery indicator when charging = the screen will display the percentage of charge so far and an approximate charging time left.argus p2 charging screen
  • Adjust airflow = move the lever on the side of the device to open and close the airflow to your preference.

    argus p2 airflow adjustment
Top = fully closed, bottom = fully open
  • Change mode = enter the menu to select either “Shift Mode” or “Power” mode.
  • SHIFT Mode = If you have selected “Shift Mode” – 3 presses of the button will cycle through the further 3 modes – SPT, NOR and ECO. Simply stop pressing the button when the mode you require is displayed.
  • Power Mode – Adjust output = press the button 3 times. The power value will flash. Press the button to increase the output and stop when at the level you require. There will be a maximum power depending on the pod installed and after this the power level will return back to 5W and you can keep adjusting.
  • Switch lighting modes = press and hold the button and release the button when the desired lighting mode is displayed.argus p2 lighting modes

Modes

Power Mode – this allows manual adjustment of the output.

argus p2 power mode

Under “Shift Mode” are 3 further modes – press the button 3 times to choose from…

  • SPT Mode – is designed to release “powerful clouds with a robust power output”
  • NOR Mode – “Provides the most comfortable vaping experience with a normal power output”
  • Eco Mode – will modify the output to preserve battery life & reduce e-liquid consumption.

Protections

Unfortunately the manual does not list how the fault conditions are displayed by the device.

All it shows is this illustration below.

argus p2 protections

During use I did get the warning below…

  • Low Bat – this message occurs when the battery needs charging and one single Red LED will flash. Charge the device.

I would assume the displays would be similar to the Argus G2 so I have included those below to try to help if you do get a fault message. Thankfully I have not had any faults occur so I cannot share what the display does!

  • Check Atomiser – a fault has occurred – clean the base of the pod and the device contacts. If still faulty try a new pod or coil. If this doesn’t fix it you may have a faulty device.
  • Time Out – if you vape for longer than 5 seconds the fire will cut out. This is to prevent over heating or if the fire has been triggered accidentally. It should operate as normal on your next vape.
  • Temp High – the device is too hot. Leave it to cool.

Also the instructions show you how to clean the contacts with a Cotton Bud – in normal use condensation can occur which may cause issues. Also if there is any leak you will need to clean the contacts.

How To Charge The Battery

The charging rate is specified as 2A.

  • Using a USB type C cable, connect the small end into the USB port on the mod.argus p2 charging
  • Connect the large end of the cable into a suitable USB outlet.
  • The screen will display the charging progress and the LED lights will pulse.argus p2 charging screen
  • When fully charged the screen will show “100% 0 min”. The screen does not go off when fully charged.

Whilst charging the screen gives an approximate charging time remaining. It stated “30 min”. The charging time for me using a 2A charging plug/outlet was 35 minutes, so the estimated charge time was slightly out – but not massively.

How To Fill the Pod

Voopoo recommend keeping the pod around 2/3 full.

You can fill the pod without removing it from the mod, I have removed the pod for the photographs as it is easier to see.

  • Lift up and swing the fill port cover out of the way.Argus G2 open fill port
  • Add e-liquid whilst observing the level through the pod.Argus G2 pod filling
  • Close the fill port firmly.
  • If this is the first fill leave the pod to stand for 5-10 minutes. Take a few dummy inhales on the mouthpiece before inserting the pod into the mod to help with the e-liquid flow.

How Does the Voopoo Argus P2 Perform?

As there are two different styles of pod included with the kit, I used different VG / PG mixtures for each.

If any of these terms are over your head – have a read of our handy guides below!

0.7ohm Argus Top Fill Pod

The recommended power limits are 14-18W.

For this pod, I used my own e-liquid mix which is 50/50 PG/VG made from IVG Bubblegum Concentrate at 20% ratio. This is quite high a flavour ratio as I prefer plenty of flavour, but sadly this means it can be a coil killer sometimes.

I add nic salt to approx 6mg strength.

I tested this pod in all 4 modes – you can find out further in the review how the modes impacted battery life and e-liquid consumption.

Power Mode

In power mode at 16W this reminded me of the epic flavour I got using this pod on the Argus G2.

The flavour is sparkly and clear and with my e-liquid the sweetness was beautiful.

It also gives a good throat hit and quite an impressive amount of vapour. This pod in this setting is just perfection and well worth the 10/10 score I will be giving it!

I would say this comes very very close to my other favourite pod kit the OXVA Xlim SQ Pro with the 0.8ohm pods.

SPT Mode

In this mode the vape felt a lot “juicier” if that makes sense? Almost a wetter vapour.

Again this made my e-liquid taste absolutely delicious and I think it would work well with sweet and fruity flavour profiles in particular. I got almost a syrupy sensation when vaping.

This was by far my favourite mode, it took the already amazing pod to even higher levels!

As you will see further in the review this mode was kind to battery life but was a bit thirsty for e-liquid.

NOR Mode

I cannot tell the difference between this mode and the standard power mode – I assume they are the same? Does “NOR” stand for “Normal”? If so it would make sense to perform in the same manner as the standard power mode.

ECO Mode

In this mode the flavour is slightly diminished but for some reason the throat hit feels slightly stronger? Also the vapour is more voluminous.

With the Argus G2 the ECO mode gave a significantly reduced output which was disappointing. However this mode on the P2 is still great – so it really depends on how much it improves battery and e-liquid consumption – which I will cover in the Battery life section below.

0.4ohm Argus Top Fill Pod

The recommended power limits are 18-30W.

For this pod I used the Choppa Vapes Blue Slush e-liquid with a 64% VG / 36% PG ratio. The higher VG ratio is more suited for higher power vaping. Also there is no nicotine added to this e-liquid as I would find it a bit harsh at higher outputs.

As I had already tried out the different user modes with the 0.7ohm pod, I just stuck to Power mode for this.

The mod automatically set itself to 23W which tasted amazing!

I didn’t need to increase the output either as 23W was absolutely spot on. I got a beautiful syrupy flavour from my e-liquid and plenty of smooth vapour. In fact it is just a really smooth vape despite being lower resistance.

Excellent work Voopoo!

Airflow

I will rate the airflow on a scale of 0-10. 0 being fully closed and 10 being breathing fresh air!

With the airflow slider closed this is pretty tight at around 0.5 – you can still just about get it to draw fire. This should please all MTL vapers as you can virtually close the airflow totally down. Fully open I would rate it around a 5 which is perfect for RDL vaping.

Mod Performance

The auto draw firing is super quick and ramps up instantaneously.

The power output did significantly drop when the battery charge was down to 7%. The “Low Bat” warning kicked in at 5% charge and the device stopped working until charged.

Although this is pretty normal, its sibling the Argus G2 was still performing well at 1% charge, so the power regulation on the P2 is not quite as good. But this phenomenon is pretty common with pod kits, I have had some drop in performance at 20% battery remaining – which is not an issue here.

The modes are impressive, SPT in particular. But even ECO kicked out great flavour – something which the Argus G2 could not manage in ECO mode. Personally I think “NOR” mode is pointless as it seems to perform exactly the same as Power mode.

Leaks

Not a drop, these are really well made and well designed pods.

Battery Life

This is not a figure you can accurately predict. There are so many variables such as the user mode, power level, pod resistance and your own vaping habits which will all impact battery life.

However I tried this in various scenarios to give you a guide. In all the scenarios I had the RGB lights and screen switched on and it is worth noting I have the 2ml pod capacity.

Power Mode

With the 0.7ohm pod at 16W I got 5.5hrs, 183 puffs and 4 refills.

With the 0.4ohm pod at 23W I got 4.5 hours 179 puffs and 3 refills.

SPT Mode

With the 0.7ohm pod in SPT mode I got 6 hours 20 minutes, 205 puffs and 5 refills.

This is surprising as this felt like the most powerful mode, but actually was more economic on battery life! That can’t be said for the e-liquid consumption as this did require 5 refills for 205 puffs.

NOR Mode

In ECO mode with the 0.7ohm pod I got 201 puffs, 3 refills and 6 hours of vaping. This kind of sits between the performance of the SPT mode and Power mode. This mode was slightly more efficient on e-liquid use needing only 3 refills for 201 puffs – compared to the 5 refills for the 205 of the SPT mode.

ECO Mode

In ECO Mode with the 0.7ohm pod I got 6 hours, 3 refills and 194 puffs. This appears to have slightly better battery life than the power mode but less than the SPT mode. But this mode did shine in the amount of refills – at 3 for a similar number of puffs.

Battery Life V Puff Count V Time Summary

0.7ohm Pod Puffs Refills Time
Power Mode (@16W) 183 4 5 hours 30 min
SPT Mode 205 5 6 hours 20 min
NOR Mode 201 3 6 hours
ECO Mode 194 3 6 hours
0.4ohm Pod
Power Mode (@23W) 179 3 4 hours 30 mins

Pros

  • A very cute and well made device
  • Pearlescent finish and transparent tinted areas are beautiful
  • Compatible with all the Argus pod range including the replaceable coil versions too!
  • Kit includes 2 pods, lanyard and USB cable
  • Amazing flavour from the top fill Argus pods
  • SPT mode made excellent flavour even better!
  • I love the colourful LED indicators – and you can turn them off
  • Zinc Alloy body feels robust
  • Airflow to suit those who like a really tight MTL vape right up to a sweet RDL vape
  • 35 minute charging time

Cons

  • Pod resistance is etched into the fill port cover and it is hard to see.
  • Only one button to make adjustments which can be a bit fiddly but does work OK
  • Instructions do not detail how any fault conditions will be displayed
  • No manual fire button – it is auto draw only. This is a shame as on some devices in the past the auto draw system can fail – so I like to have manual fire as a back-up
  • Lots of visible screw heads might be off-putting to some, I quite like them as they enhance the “industrial” design
  • Lanyard is tricky to install into the cut out areas
  • Does not have the super fast charging capability (18 minutes) of the previous P1.
  • The transparent areas of the mod might be prone to scratches
  • Cannot lock the button

Final Review Verdict

The main selling point of this kit is the excellent pods. The flavour is epic! Add to that the performance from the amazing SPT mode and it is frankly – “banging”!

If you like the simplicity of fixed coil disposable pods or prefer the less waste approach of replaceable coils – the Argus P2 has you covered with its wide range of compatible pods!

The industrial design is very up my street but might be off-putting to some. But if you dislike “bling” on your vape you can turn off the RGB LED’s and the screen if you wish.

There is a bit of a learning curve about how to operate – for instance the instructions do not tell you how to swap between different “Shift” modes. I had to work that out for myself. Likewise there is no information on fault displays.

If you are a new vaper I would just suggest not fiddling with the output settings at all! The device will select the required power automatically. Plus it arrives already set in “NOR” mode. Just concentrate on the airflow adjustment and you will be up and running. Auto draw activation also helps with simplicity. Sadly you cannot lock the button though which might be an issue when in pockets or bags.

Personally I prefer the Argus G2 as it has manual and auto draw firing and the screen is better. Performance wise the P2 somehow seems to excel!

voopoo-argus-p2-reviewMy main description of this kit is "Delicious"! I love the flavour and performance of the new Top Fill Argus pods - they are excellent. Secondly I would call this "Gorgeous" with the industrial design and finishing touches such as holographic logos and transparent panels. Thirdly I would say "Powerful" as it seems to kick out more flavour, warmth and vapour than you would expect!
