Today the gloves are well and truly off as I take a look at the Tyson 2.0 Lightweight Disposable Vapes from US manufacturer Tyson Vapes.

Well, well, well. That’s a turn up for the books. Who’d have thunk it? Former Heavyweight Boxing champ Mike Tyson endorsing a vape product. Only in America as they say.

tyson image

It appears Hulk Hogan has done the same thing with his Immortal range.

To be fair, e-Cig companies have used well known celebrities to endorse their products for a while with celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and John Lennon all having the Photoshop treatment to promote them.

Mike’s disposables have been in circulation for over a year. The original Tyson 2.0 vape appeared as a 14ml, 15000 puff device with 50mg salt nicotine. That was followed up by the Round 2 disposable featuring 16ml of E-Liquid and of course the Heavyweight version capable of 7,000 puffs.

tyson vape products

Clearly devices designed for the US vaping market but there’s a couple of things that sets them apart from your run of the mill disposable vape.

Firstly, these products come with a USB charging cable included. Yup! That’s a rarity when it comes to disposable vapes, for sure.

Secondly – and this applies just as much to the TPD compliant non rechargeable Lightweight range as the rest, a strong emphasis on safety and compliance.

What Can We Expect From The Tyson 2.0 Lightweight Disposable Vapes?

Presentation

The disposables arrive in sealed cartons, the lids of which are heavily glued down. Luckily there’s a tab you can depress on the rear which makes life much easier for those with dexterity issues.

As for the packaging itself? I’m actually quite impressed because all useful information is clearly shown in one place. This includes number of puffs, E-liquid volume, nicotine strength and battery capacity.

You can even scratch and scan a QR code to verify product authenticity. On that subject, a warning card is included which features advice on fake batteries and E-liquid.

Flipping the card gives us more valuable advice.

  • Keep the device dry. Moisture near the bottom air hole can harm the power sensor, leading to issues like auto firing, overheating and coil damage
  • Avoid leaving the device in high temperature environments
  • Flavour fades when the battery is low
  • Seriously! DO NOT GET IT WET!

.. I had to laugh at that last one.

Of course you’ll also get the obligatory safety leaflet setting out a potential list of side effects and general instructions for use.

Appearance

As for the disposable itself – the outer carton had me believing it to be larger than it actually is. Put it this way. It’s going to look extremely dinky in your hands. Then again, I guess most things already do in Iron Mike’s!

What’s in a name? Quite a lot in this case because it’s also extremely lightweight.

..Something else I wouldn’t dare describe Mike as!

This is your typical tablet shaped disposable with a pretty average appearance. Predominantly plastic and the mouthpiece area has a Rubberised texture, making for a comfortable vaping experience.

The main body has a tattoo design sculpted into the plastic – very much like those adorning the physique of the great man himself.

A single airflow slot is positioned on the base of the disposable and this is also where a Blue LED illuminates while vaping.

The Tyson 2.0 Lightweight range of disposables come in a range of 36 flavours ranging from fruit, drink, mint, menthol, dessert and tobacco profiles.

Note: Please remember to remove the sticker from the base of the disposable as well as the silicone stopper in the mouthpiece before attempting to vape.

Massive shout out to Vape Streams for sending these across for the purposes of review. It’s very much appreciated.

Let’s just hope I find them appealing. Wouldn’t like to be on the receiving end of Mike’s right hook!

So ‘Ding Ding’. Let’s get on with it. Oh! And excuse the inevitable Boxing metaphors thrown in here and there. I simply couldn’t help myself..

Frozen Grape

Tyson LW Says:

A knockout combination of sweet Grape flavours which are complimented with an ice finish to make your taste buds dance with delight.

I Say:

Quite a pleasant and frosty inhale with Frozen Grape. I guess the clue is in the title but it does pack a nice refreshing icy cold blast and certainly ‘goes the distance’ when it comes to longevity.

You’ll be feeling its effects for quite a long period of time.

It’s actually finely balanced with the fruit content. All we have to ‘contend’ with is the presence of Grape, which as usual isn’t the most realistic version. It’s still as artificial tasting as always (for a disposable variety, anyway) but at least not as noxious as many I’ve sampled.

There’s plenty of sweetness thrown into the ring which may be a little too strong for some but it’s there to bring out the sparkle – an additional clout to the overall flavour experience.

Grape vapes aren’t really my thing but there’s no denying the hefty flavour punch this one brings.

Frozen Blueberry

Tyson LW Says:

The delectable combination of sweet Blueberry and ice collide to create a symphony of flavour that will ignite your taste buds.

I Say:

This is a highly scented vape in terms of the exhale and it absolutely screams flavour!

The inhale is silky smooth and the cooling agent builds, soothing the rear of the throat in a pleasant manner.

The sweetness levels have been toned down, which makes for a welcome change but it’s not quite the Blueberry taste I know and love.

It does tend to have a slight rubbery taste for want of a better way to describe it. It’s definitely the disposable rendition as opposed to bottled version, put it that way.

If you’re a casual vaper looking for a Blueberry vape the chances are you won’t really be disappointed. It packs the flavour with every vape.

I guess my own flavour palette is a bit more discerning or sensitive after ten years of vaping.

Coconut

Tyson LW Says:

A knockout single fruit blend of tropical Coconut flavours that will make your taste buds dance with delight

I Say:

I can make out the slightest whiff of Vanilla from the mouthpiece when ripping this one from its blister bag.

And I get a whole load more of that from the exhale. It’s mixed in with copious levels of Caramel too.

So I have to say that kinda disappoints me because in no way does it remind me of Coconut. The chances are it may have had a fighting chance were it not so damn sweet in nature.

If you think of a Caramac bar (if they’re still in circulation) and you’ll be getting the general idea. That’s not to say I dislike the taste – it’s pretty much up my Dessert Street but the sweetness definitely interferes with the smooth, Milky tones I was expecting to find.

The cooling agent also throws things off kilter. Had this vape had the husky, almost dry qualities of Coconut it could have represented the refreshing qualities generally associated.

As things stand I’d place this one in the sweets category, personally. So the score has to represent my experiences.

Apple Gummies

Tyson LW Says:

A knockout combination of sweet and sour Apple Gummies flavours that will make your taste buds dance with delight

I Say:

A strong smell of Garden Apples dances off the silicone mouthpiece upon opening this one.

The actual vape itself is completely different from what I was expecting.

A strong taste of Sherbet resonates throughout the exhale and it’s actually quite delightful. It certainly makes for a different approach to one of the most common vape flavours on the market.

Yes, there’s still a tidal wave of sweetness but it just seems to work really well with the overall Apple blend, which as I previously mentioned is of the Garden variety.

Another flavour intensive vape and one that simply refuses to let up throughout. It’s also a very smooth experience on the inhale and that’s where the cooling agent punches the hardest.

So it reminds me more of a sweet, Sherbet type of Apple as opposed to having any gummy like texture.

Do I care?

Not at all. This is a very satisfying single fruit taste experience.

Frozen Strawberry

Tyson LW Says:

With its sweet and ripe Strawberry flavour blended with an ice-cool finish, this vape pod is a knockout punch of taste

I Say:

Frozen Strawberry is quite interesting.

I happen to agree with the flavour description. There is a blend of sweet and ripe Strawberry running through the vape. This is the type that tends to have the least sweetness though in order for the more authentic nature of the fruit to pull through.

Which it does quite successfully. It’s like two opposing fighters – initially I can taste the chewy sweet version, swiftly followed up by a more natural blend of Strawberries.

Yet I also feel there’s a creamy texture to the exhale. Almost milky, so even a touch of dessert style berries seem to have been included.

Of course that latter observation is backed up by the cooling agent which again works very effectively to lift out the individual flavour components.

Frozen Strawberry offers a killer punch and I’m very surprised by how well it’s been layered.

My clear favourite of the range.

Frozen Banana

Tyson LW Says:

The delectable combination of tropical Banana and ice collide to create a perfect symphony of flavour that will ignite your taste buds

I Say:

Another favourite!

I do like a nice single flavour fruit vape when it’s done correctly and Frozen Banana ticks all the boxes for me.

This one carries all the attributes of a ripe, ready to munch Banana with just the right level of sweetness to keep it interesting from first inhale to last gasp exhale.

.. None of your average foam sweet taste here!

What’s more, the cooling agent almost lifts it into the desserts based flavour category. It’s certainly a smooth enough inhale, only missing that complimentary creamy texture.

Again, it’s the overall flavour that impresses. It’s there from the start to the very end and even lingers on the ‘ole taste buds afterwards.

So there’s a healthy mix of flavour authenticity, sweetness and cooling with Frozen Banana.

Who needs smelling salts when you can have this!

Grape Razz

Tyson LW Says:

A knockout combination of crisp Grape and sweet Raspberry flavours that will make your taste buds dance with delight

I Say:

Not a bad effort by any means. I have to overlook the fact that I’m not a fan of Grape based vapes or particularly keen on how the Raspberry reacts in the Tyson 2.0 Lightweight range.

The combination of the two fruits is actually very effective. They mix and meld well together.

Because the taste is once again so strong, it’s almost as if I’m presented with a Minty flavour at the very start of exhale. That effect rapidly makes way for a fusion of fruitiness on the way out.

Yes. A very strong and concentrated partnership where the experience is lifted by a refreshingly cold inhale.

The sweetness has been curtailed to an extent although it’s still omnipresent but combined with everything else Grape Razz has to offer, you’re certainly getting what you paid for.

So I’m marking this one for its ability to combine two flavours on an effective scale.

Blue Razz

Tyson LW Says:

With its sweet and tangy Raspberry flavour, reminiscent of the classic Blue Raspberry treats, this vape pod is a knockout punch of taste

I Say:

Nice, but it’s a vape of two boxing corners.

The initial exhale delivers all the promise of fresh, succulent and sweet Raspberry. But as the vape fades so does the flavour quality.

The palette is left with something a little more noxious. An intense sweetness remains throughout exhale but there’s definitely a transformation to the taste.

We’re dealing with another single fruit flavour so I can’t quite put my finger on what might be causing this. It may well be that the mesh coil is faulty in this one, I’m not sure.

An ice cold blast begins proceedings and is actually nicely pitched. It’s not too intense and generally does the job of ensuring a vibrant, refreshing vape experience.

I’d also have to say that on this occasion the sweetness is a bit too much for me. It seems to saturate the rear of the throat in a way the others don’t.

So as I say, one corner of the ring shows real talent. The other is a little more brutal.

Cherry Berry

Tyson LW Says:

A delectable combination of sweet Cherries and tangy berries collide to create a symphony of flavours that will ignite your taste buds

I Say:

Very nice, if a little too sweet for my particular flavour palette.

The exhale simply oozes Cherry and it comes thick and fast!

It’s not the strongest in the range when it comes to cooling properties but it still adds that extra zing and freshness during inhale.

It’s still your very basic, generic version of Cherry so don’t expect anything as exotic as Maraschino for example.

It lends itself more to the poppy, mainstream version usually found in disposable vapes.

And it gets the job done. You’d probably know the flavour if blindfolded.

Another highly consistent vape but it could’ve done with a little less sweetener for my particular taste buds.

Lush Lime

Tyson LW Says:

With each puff, you’ll experience an explosion of tangy Lime goodness that will leave you craving for more

I Say:

This one is extremely sweet on the inhale. It actually dwarfs the effects of the cooling agent!

It is a very nice, smooth blend though. The Lime isn’t overpowering and the Citrus levels have been well and truly held in check. So this means the taste isn’t sickly at all – trust me! That really does make for a refreshing change.

Lime Lush does put me in mind of a slushy drink based profile but I can’t help feeling a modicum of Chocolate has been applied. It just appears to be running rather subtly through the exhale. Of course that could just be my taste buds.

It’s a very flavour saturated vape. Exactly what you’d expect from a disposable product and holds up extremely well throughout exhale.

It packs one helluva flavour punch! Just remember it’s also very sweet.

Battery Life & Number of Puffs

For a 550mAh rated disposable, battery life is about average – about what you’d expect.

I managed approximately six and a half hours continuous use. We do have to keep in mind I’m quite a regular vaper so I’d imagine eight hours to be a feasible figure for the more casual user out there.

With my vaping patterns then, this works out to around 450 puffs. Somewhat short of suggested figures.

Not great but one thing to note is the battery performance itself. It’s very good. There wasn’t any noticeable drop in flavour as it begins to wane. So much so that I was blissfully unaware until the Blue LED on the base flashed ten times in quick succession.

The Tyson 2.0 Lightweight disposable delivers excellent flavour right up to the last possible vape. That goes for vapour production too.

The included mesh coil is a veritable workhorse in this respect.

Final Review Verdict

I couldn’t find out the finer details of the FYRE mesh coil technology used in the Tyson 2.0 Lightweight range of disposables, suffice to say they do get the job done.

Chances are the resistance is in the region of 1.0 – 1.2ohm. Even so, for such a small strip of mesh the disposables do indeed pack a flavour clout and a half.

What’s more, flavour holds up consistently throughout use. Of course that could be down to the battery failing before E-liquid levels run dry. Whatever the case, they produce top quality flavour to the very last vape.

If I have to be picky the MTL draw is slightly loose. A fact discovered when attempting to RDL – which I was able to do quite comfortably. We tell you what the terms MTL and RDL mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

Finally, the vapour production is great. It easily mimics the volume of a cigarette and the inhale is always silky smooth.

Given the weight, size and discreet properties, the Tyson 2.0 Lightweight disposables are ideal for the casual vaper or someone planning a night out on the town.

They’ll easily go the distance and pack a flavour punch every time.

tyson-2-0-lightweight-disposable-vapes-reviewA lot of these were single fruit flavours, packing a hefty punch with each and every vape. However there are plenty of multi flavoured ones in the Lightweight range and from the few I sampled, blending was on point. The FYRE mesh coil works tirelessly to deliver the goods on a highly consistent level and vapour production is more than satisfactory. Oh! And you can't get more pocket friendly than this!
