In this review we are checking out one of the entries in the XROS series of pod systems, the Vaporesso XROS 5!
It’s been a minute since we’ve reviewed a Vaporesso product, but in the past we’ve had our hands on some great gear from them, such as the Armour G DTL Sub Ohm kit, XROS 4 Nano, Coss Click and the excellent Deliciu range of nicotine salt e-liquids!
Vaporesso have also produced one of my all-time favourite pod systems, the Vaporesso XROS Pro!
What Can We Expect From The Vaporesso XROS 5?
Vaporesso invite you to cross the limits and cross super charging with the XROS 5 pod system!
It has been designed as a professional and customisable MTL device for those seeking a pod system compatible with a high-quality lifestyle. A big claim for sure!
Compatibility with the large range of XROS series pods, empowered by Corex 3.0 technology, provides vapers with a more constant, reliable and stable vape with rich, delicate and smooth flavour delivery.
Corex 3.0 technology is the latest innovative heating technology from Vaporesso, applying a new Hive Mesh structure, a chimney design, nano-microfibre process and aerospace grade high temperature materials to deliver market-leading flavour.
There’s a 1500mAh MEGA BATTERY packed in here, designed to last you all day and more, with 3A super fast charging able to charge your device back up to 80% in just 20 minutes, so you are never without your XROS 5 companion.
Preset power output modes provide you with a power output up to 30W, with these easily adjustable on the fly. And your vape can be customised even further with the adjustable airflow.
A 0.88″ HD screen with six different colourful and playful themes gives you another level of customisation, and you can further personalise the XROS 5 to you with a massive 14 different colour options available for your device.
I’m always excited to get my hands on Vaporesso gear so let’s see what the XROS 5 has in store! Thanks to Ninja Vapes for sending the XROS 5 in for review.

Design & Build Quality
Straight out of the box, my very first impression of the XROS 5 was that Vaporesso have managed to retain that classic, instantly recognisable XROS DNA while somehow elevating it to feel significantly more premium.
The machining on the body of the XROS 5 is top-notch, with no sharp edges or burrs, giving it a truly premium look as well as weighty feel in the hand without it feeling cumbersome.
When you pick this little beauty up, it just screams quality!
Weighing in at 73.7g and measuring a pocket-friendly 120.8mm (including pod) x 24.5mm x 14.5mm, it has a really satisfying, weighty heft to it.
It’s certainly a bit heavier than some of those cheap-as-chips, plastic-feeling entry-level pod kits on the market, but that’s exactly what you want when you’re looking for a dependable daily driver.
There are an absolute wealth of different finishes available for the XROS 5 too.
You can pick from Cosmic Black, Lavender Purple, Coral Red, Grey Silk, Blue Silk, Violet Silk, Opal Pink, Opal White, Jade Green, Carbon Stripe and the newly added leather range featuring Black, Brown, Grey and Red leather options.
Vaporesso have integrated a crystal-clear 0.88-inch HD colour display right onto the front face.
It sits beautifully flush behind a reinforced screen frame, making it look incredibly stealthy when the screen is asleep.
When it’s awake, it’s vibrant, easy to read even in direct sunlight, and lets you monitor your wattage, battery life, and puff count with a quick glance.
On one side of the device is the power button, and there is absolutely zero button rattle here—a massive pet peeve of mine! The fire button has a wonderfully tactile, clicky feedback to it in use. Underneath the power button is the Type-C charging port.
Opposite to this is the adjustable airflow slider. It has just the right amount of tension- it’s stiff enough that it won’t accidentally slide open in your jeans pocket, but smooth enough to let you dial in your exact airflow preference with a fingernail.
The magnetic connection holding the XROS pod in place is spot on. Once that pod drops into the battery section, it snaps into place satisfyingly.
There is virtually zero side-to-side wiggle, and thanks to the clear viewing window on the XROS pod, you can easily check your e-liquid levels without having to yank the pod out every five minutes.
Quick Start Guide
How to Fill the Pod
Vaporesso XROS pods use a tried and tested, easy filling method!
All you do here is push the mouthpiece section of the pod off with your thumb, pop the bottle nozzle of your e-liquid bottle in the red filling port and fill away.
Don’t try to squeeze it in the smaller hole!
Once you’ve filled the pod, pop the mouthpiece back on the pod and let the e-liquid sit in the pod for at least five minutes to allow the cotton in the coil to become fully saturated with e-liquid.
This reduces the risk of nasty dry hits and also will prolong the lifespan of your pod.
Operation
Firstly, you are going to want to turn the XROS 5 on, and to do so click the power button five times in two seconds.
If you want to change the theme of the XROS 5, click the power button twice in quick succession to enter the theme select menu and click the power button to cycle through the different options.
To select your preferred theme, hold down the power button on your chosen option.

Clicking the power button four times in two seconds will take you into the settings menu, giving you options to lock the screen, power button, clear the puff counter and turn vaping animations on or off.
An auto draw system is present on the XROS 5 so you can just puff on the mouthpiece to fire it, you can also use the power button to fire the device if you so wish!
Charging
An excellent feature of the XROS 5 is the ‘Super Charging’ function, which means that thanks to 3A Type-C fast charging, you can charge a flat device to 80% in 20 minutes!
This is a great option if you are in a bind and need to charging your XROS 5 up in a hurry. You’ve just got to ensure that you utilize the included charging cable and a suitable power source to take advantage of this.
The XROS 5 even charges pretty quickly off my powerbank, as I found out on a recent camping trip where I had forgotten to give it a charge before I left the house!
Safety Features
- Low resistance/short circuit protection
- Overheating protection
- No load/high resistance protection
- Low voltage/over discharging protection
- Overcharging protection
How Does The Vaporesso XROS 5 Perform?
The XROS 5 is capable of outputting power up to 30W, however when using the included pods you are limited to output power presets of Eco, Normal and Power.
To fine tune the wattage further, you need to use the 0.4ohm XROS pod, which I unfortunately didn’t have to hand for this review!
I’m not sure what the exact output of these different presets are, however:
- Eco mode weakens the vape somewhat to conserve battery life
- Normal mode provides a pretty satisfying vape
- Power is much more like it for me- this provides a warm and intense vape much more suited to having the airflow open.
Vape stability is absolutely excellent, this feels very consistent from the first puff on a fully charged battery right down to the last one on an almost empty one. No wild power variances to be found here!
Flavour
I have tried plenty of the XROS series pods in the past but until now I had yet to try out any featuring the new Corex 3.0 technology.
This really does feel like an even bigger step up from the previous pods featuring the 2.0 technology!
With both the 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm pods, it feels like flavour has been taken up to another level, and these pods are up there with the best that I have tried.
Flavour delivery is incredibly rich and pronounced, but without it being too overwhelming. It manages to remain a very smooth vape, allowing me to pick up on all the flavour notes on my e-liquids, regardless of the power output setting.
Pod Lifespan
XROS pods have always been solid and dependable for me, and the new ones featuring the Corex 3.0 technology are top notch.
I got over a weeks worth of usage from both pods here, which is more than I can ask. I’m usually happy to get a week out of a single pod!
In play, I have had absolutely no leaks when using the Vaporesso XROS 5- barely even a note of condensation to wipe away!
Airflow
Now, the XROS 5 is marketed as a MTL device, but this is definitely capable of providing both a MTL and RDL draw!
It helps that it is compatible with the XROS series of pods, so you have compatibility with the 0.4ohm and 0.6ohm versions, and when the airflow is cranked open I could definitely get a cloudy RDL hit off this.
Of course, it is primarily a MTL device but don’t let that put you off if you are an RDL vaper- the XROS 5 is capable of catering to both!
When it comes to MTL vaping, you can tighten the airflow right down if you so wish for a cheek-suckingly tight draw, making this great for high strength nicotine salt vaping.
Battery Life
One of my main gripes with the XROS 4 was that despite it being a top performing pod system, the 1000mAh internal battery wouldn’t quite last a whole days worth of vaping…
Well Vaporesso have solved this issue with the XROS 5, the battery capacity increases to 1500mAh here which means it easily sails though a full day’s worth of heavy vaping using the 0.6ohm XROS pod, I get even more with the 0.8ohm XROS pod and some 20mg nicotine salt e-liquid!
That means I have no qualms about taking it out and about with me as my main device!
Pros
- Offers a DTL and MTL vape with adjustable power output and airflow
- Fast charging option is fantastic for charging your device back up quickly
- Deliciously flavoursome vape from the included XROS pods…
- …which also have great lifespan too!
- Also lots of different pod options available in the XROS series
- Great build quality and simple, understated looks
- Can lock the firing button to make it auto draw only
Cons
- Can’t fine tune the power output unless you use the 0.4ohm pod (sold separately), just 3 output power presets available
- No way to lock the button altogether, I have had a couple of occasions where settings got changed in my pocket…
- Basic screen
Final Verdict
The Vaporesso XROS 5 is a flavour chaser’s dream!
Thanks to the new COREX 3.0 mesh technology, this provides some of the smoothest and best flavour I have experienced yet from a pod system, bringing out notes in my go-to e-liquids that I didn’t even realise were there before.
It delivers waves and waves of incredible flavour, vapour production is immensely satisfying for its size and it performs superbly with any e-liquid that I have thrown into it.
Build quality here for the device is excellent, with the XROS 5 boasting understated elegance when it comes to looks, making it a real head-turner of a pod system.
Throw in a beastly 1500mAh battery and lightning-fast 3A USB-C charging, and you have an absolute powerhouse that lasts all day and charges before you need your next nicotine hit!
The OLED screen gives you exactly what you need without overcomplicating things, and the adjustable airflow slider lets you dial it right down for a proper, restricted mouth-to-lung hit, or open it up for a surprisingly airy restricted direct lung vape.
Overall, Vaporesso have knocked out a serious pod system here, the XROS 5 has become a device I always make sure that I carry out and about with me!
