The Vaptio Palo is one of the latest pen kits from the extremely popular vape company.

It offers the option of either MTL vaping or DTL vaping with a max output of 23 watts and a minimum 8 watts depending on which coil you are using.

Vaptio is based out of Seattle in the United States.

They have been in the game from 2014 and have a number of AIO, tanks and mods in the repertoire.

The Vaptio Super Cape, Vaptio Tyro kit and the popular Vaptio Cosmo Kit to name just a few.

You can come across some of their kit in some brick and mortar stores but you will definitely find a lot of Vaptio gear in online stores.

What Can We Expect From The Vaptio Palo?

The Vaptio Palo is an All In One pocket sized pen device with a 2ml capacity.

Adjustable airflow meaning you can make the vape as restrictive as you like.

The airflow opens wider for a Direct To Lung vape with the 0.6ohm coil, or as Vaptio themselves describe it, a Shallow DTL vape.

Changing the coil and opening or closing over the airflow should give you a totally different vaping experience, does it work though?

I’ll be testing both MTL and DTL with this device.

The Vaptio Palo is available in 6 different colour options and I have to say, faded colour style is quite eye catching.

Not a fan of it then you have the solid black or silver option.

The Vaptio Palo has a top airflow design and is stating to be leak-proof, I’ll be testing that.

So, lets get this fella juiced up and find out how the it performs.

The Vaptio Palo was sent to me for the purposes of this review, I will give you my honest opinion, I have been testing this product for a couple of weeks.

Design and Build Quality

The Vaptio Palo is a well built Pen style mod.

It is pocket size, maybe not shirt pocket but definitely any other pocket.

No rattles at all even with a good long shake.

The fire button is comfortable and gives a satisfying click when pressed.

The top airflow, as Vaptio claims, is leak-proof.

Vaptio Palo in hand

Now I have tried, leaving the device on its side, upside down and pretty much every angle and no leaks.

The glass tube clearly show your juice level.

The top cap removes easily and smoothly for filling.

Drip tip is 510 with an O ring so you can easily get your favourite drip tip on it.

The USB charge port can be found on the opposite side of the power button, while charging an LED light goes on while charging.

Fire Button | Airflow

The fire button is well positioned on the Vaptio Palo, it has a LED light surrounding the button, slightly raised making it easier to locate without looking.

Switching the device on and off is simply 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off.

A red light will flash around the button on both occasions.

The airflow is completely adjustable, air-vents are located just below the top cap on both sides.

Opening one vent slightly opens the other vent the same amount.

Adjusting the airflow is simple, rotating the vent one round either way.

This has a very smooth action and doesn’t stick whatsoever.

The quality of the vape with the airflow for both MTL and DTL we will get into later.

The Vaptio Palo Coils

The Vaptio Palo comes supplied with two coils.

Neither coil is preinstalled so do not rush in there and fill with juice.

It is worth noting that each coil will run at a different wattage.

  • The Palo A1 coil will run between 18w – 23w.
  • The Palo A2 coil will run between 8w – 12w.

The wattage will depend on the battery itself; you should be getting the higher end of those numbers with a fully charged battery.

The wattage will drop as the battery strength goes down.

Vaptio Palo Coils

So let’s start off with putting the first coil into the Vaptio Palo kit.

This is simple, as the kit does not have a coil preinstalled, the top cap will literally pop off the glass tube.

Prime the coil, and screw it into the top cap.

Read more: Why it’s important to prime you coils.

Once secured, then screw the top cap with coil into the glass tube.

The threads from the coil keep the top cap and Palo kit attached together.

Now you are ready to put your juice in.

Push down on the top cap and twist the cap a quarter turn and the top cap will pop off.

You will see two fill holes on either side, do not put you juice down the central hole as then will go straight into the coil and you do not want to deal with that flooding issue.

Place the top cap on top, press down and do an opposite quarter turn, leave it now for about 5 minutes and you are ready to vape.

The coils themselves have survived the two week testing without any drop in their performance.

As always I’m not using overly sweet juice, a sweeter juice will have an impact on the life of the coil.

I received two Vaptio Palo Kits for the purpose of the review, so one was used purely for MTL and the other DTL.

It is worth noting that neither coil is mesh, the A1 coil has nichrome wire, the A2 stainless steel.

How Does The Vaptio Palo Perform?

Let’s get straight into changing the coils and filling the tank before we get into the performance.

How To Change The Vaptio Palo Kit coil

We have already gone through placing the first coil earlier, the process of changing the coil couldn’t be simpler:

Vaptio Palo inserting coil into top

  • Unscrew the top holding onto the Top Airflow
  • Unscrew old coil
  • Screw in the replacement coil
  • Place a drop of juice on each cotton hole
  • Screw assembly back in gripping onto the top airflow

Vaptio Palo inserting coil into mod

That’s it, quite simple to change, I would recommend doing this with an empty tank though.

How to fill the Vaptio Palo Kit

It is very simple:

  • Push down slightly on the top cap and give it a quarter turn
  • Using one of the kidney shaped fill holes and fill with your preferred juice
  • Place the top cap back on, push down slightly and give a reverse quarter turn
  • Readjust the air vent to your preference.

That’s you ready to go

Flavour and Vapour Production

I’m going to split this into a MTL section and DTL section, the Vaptio Palo Kit is designed as both, so it seems only right to separate the two modes.

MTL Flavour and Vapour

So I have used the same juices in all MTL reviews to keep the scoring consistent.

The juices used where Pure Mist BL 50/50,  Vampire Vape Pinkman 60/40 and Excision Harambe 70/30.

All juice was tested on my preferred airflow setting, one air-hole on either side of the air vents.

This was all using the PALO A2 1.2ohm coil.

Vapour production was pretty much what you would expect from a mouth to lung vape.

With the Pure mist, a 50/50 mix which contains standard nicotine, the flavour was a bit muted, I could pick up the tobacco but only just and there was no throat hit at all, 6 out of 10.

The Vampire Vape Pinkman, a 60/40 mix which is a nic salt juice, a strong flavoured juice and it definitely came through on the Vaptio Palo, mild throat hit, a definite improvement over the previous juice. 8 out of 10.

The flavour from the Excision Harambe, this is a 70/30 mix of juice.

The coil wicked very well with this juice, zero dry hits with chaining it, flavour was good.

No throat hit, but that is mostly down to it only having a 3mg nic level. 9 out of 10.

As with any MTL device, don’t expect to hot box a room out. The vapour production for the Vaptio Palo Kit MTL mode is good compared to most.

DTL Flavour and Vapour

This is where I start to get a little negative.

I do want to note that I do like a restrictive DTL vape, although I found the Vaptio Palo kit too restrictive even with the air vents completely open.

Using the PALO A1 0.6ohm coil, it seemed like I was inhaling for a good 8 to 10 seconds, which felt like hard work due to the restriction, for little results.

I used a number of juices, Drip Hacks Smashberry, Vaponaire’s Chestnut Cake, Titanic Vapours Custard Lemon Curd.

All with pretty much the same result, little to no flavour and vapour production comparable to a excellent MTL device.

All the juice above have strong distinct flavours that were all struggling to come through. 2 out of 10.

Vaptio Palo Coil Life

After two weeks of use on both Vaptio Palo Kits, the coils are still going well, no signs of degradation in the coil life.

Airflow | Draw

The Vaptio Palo Kit has an adjustable airflow, for MTL you will have no problem finding the setting you like.

air holes fully open

For DTL, Vaptio do advertise this as a Shallow DTL vape.

Air Holes half open

For me, it feels more like an airy MTL vape.

Juice Consumption

Juice consumption is excellent in both settings, it sips away on the juice like its saving water crossing the desert.

Vapour Production

Again, for the MTL coil, its OK, nothing mind blowing and you won’t be doing any jellyfish tricks with it.

The DTL, even though it is shallow, for me the vapour production is poor.

Battery Life

The 1500mAh battery on a full charge will last you the day, charging fully in a couple of hours.

The Vaptio Palo Kit runs at a maximum 23watts, is not going to test the battery too much.

Charging the Vaptio Palo Kit is simple, plug in the USB cable in the side of the Palo mod and away it goes, the light around the power button will flash white while it is charging and switch to a solid white light when fully charged.

Vaptio Palo charging

You can vape while it is charging.

It may fall over while charging but don’t worry, I have left this on its side with juice in it for a couple of hours and zero signs of leaking.

Pros

  • Excellent Colour Designs
  • Easy to use
  • Fits in any pocket
  • Excellent Battery Life
  • Leakproof
  • 510 Drip tip

Cons

  • Poor DTL performance

Final Review Verdict

I struggled a bit with this, as a MTL device, the Vatio Palo Kit is actually not that bad but as a DTL device, it really doesn’t perform, even with a fresh battery charge.

I began to wonder was 23watts really enough for a good direct lung vape and would a mesh coil have improved the flavour?

Lets hope that mesh coil option comes so we can find out.

The device itself looks good, feels good in the hand, it’s a pen mod, there are lots of them out there, one of the things that sets them all apart is the coil.

More and more are starting to be released with mesh coils, which, lets face it, mostly deliver on flavour.

Would I recommend the Vaptio Palo Kit to anyone trying to get off the stinkies, honestly?

Probably, although only as a MTL device.

Would I recommend this to someone that already vapes?

Probably not…

I wrestled with this for quite a bit, the scoring for this is going to drop because of my personal experience with the DTL side of it.

It would definitely have been up there in the rankings if it was pushed as purely MTL.

Have you used the Vaptio Palo kit?

  1. The Vaptio Palo for me works best at around 70â„… open air flow, get the best mixture of hit/flavour, comparing to previous device, Aspire Pockex, I’d say it’s got the edge with its easy filling cap and less prone to spitting/flooding, surprised to find out after running out of coils that my old Aspire coils fit and work perfectly in my Vaptio also!
