Are Voopoo about to spark my life again with today’s Voopoo Doric Q pod kit review?

Voopoo Doric Q pod kithand checkThe Doric Q pod kit is the latest addition to the Voopoo V series which also includes the Doric 60 and Doric 20.

The great news is that the Doric Q is compatible with the pod of the Doric 20, opening it up to a variety of ITO coils.

At first glance the Doric Q could easily pass as a recently released disposable, especially to those outside the UK and EU regions.

In fact much of the simplicity remains. The three step power control of the Doric 20 has been ditched and it relies on constant wattage and auto draw to function.

So Voopoo are targeting the new vaper with the Doric Q pod kit. They’re also promising more.

Extended vaping time between charging.

I’ll be putting that to the test along with my usual thoughts and observations.

What Can We Expect From the Voopoo Doric Q Pod Kit?

The Voopoo Doric Q is a simple, no nonsense pod kit for the absolute beginner. As alluded to, the Doric Q relies entirely on auto draw to function making it an ideal alternative to a disposable vape.

It’s powered by an 800mAh battery section which outputs a steady 12W with the 1.0 ohm fixed coil.

Voopoo tell us that we can expect anything up to 2 days continuous use from a single charge. Of course this will be dependent on your own vaping habits.

Voopoo Doric Q long lasting batteryExpect anything up to 10 days use before having to dispose of the pod section.

Voopoo’s ITO tech is incorporated into the device to ensure not only a smooth, flavoursome MTL inhale but to prevent condensate leakage around the base of the coil.

Voopoo ITO pod anti leakage techOn the subject of ITO tech, the pod and ITO mesh coils of the Doric 20 are compatible. Since those coils offer more of a selection, chances are you’ll be considering these as replacements for when the included pod is spent.

The Doric Q pod kit comes with a 2ml capacity regardless of region and the contents remains the same across the board.

You can pick it up in a number of colour schemes. Choose from Mint Green (under review), Deep Brown, Navy Blue, Primrose Yellow, Minty Rose, Begonia Red and Chartreuse Yellow.

Voopoo Doric Q Pod Kit – Design and Build Quality

Battery Section

The Doric range of pod kits is inspired by the mysterious pillars of the ancient Roman pantheon.

Looking at the shape of the Doric Q with its double injected design I can see why. The vertical grooves catch the light, creating an almost two tone effect.

The clear PolyCarbonate certainly feels tough enough to absorb a few knocks and the side mounted USB port is nicely recessed against accidental damage.

Above this there’s a pin hole airflow slot – proof that the Doric Q has been designed as a MTL device.

On the opposite side we’ve got an LED indicator. This responds in multiple ways.

It’s great to see Voopoo have included battery venting on the underside of the device. It doesn’t matter what the battery capacity is – you can never be too careful.

The Doric Q has a diameter of 22mm. This means it can stand quite sturdy on any surface. That also includes while charging. A real bonus in my opinion.

Inside the battery section we find an airflow separator tube and two gold plated, spring loaded coil contacts.

The Pod/Cartridge

This is basically the same pod as the Doric 20 with one fundamental difference – the ITO coil is now sealed inside.

Once the flavour becomes tasteless it’s time to replace the entire pod.

Voopoo Doric Q ITO podThe pod is made of a clear PCTG material which means the entire E-liquid capacity is visible at all times. Even with the pod attached to the battery section.

Another plus point.

Voopoo have provided enough finger clearance to be able to successfully lift the silicone fill stopper each and every time. The bung is also thick and substantial enough to know when it’s plugging the hole.

The moulded mouthpiece stands quite tall although it is very comfortable when in use, I do have to say I find it a little on the wide side given the device is designed for mouth to lung vaping.

Voopoo Doric Q Quick Start Guide

LED Indicators

The LED is responsible for current battery status and also indicates of potential problems with the device.

  • While charging the LED remains solid Blue
  • Once charged the LED remains solid Green
  • When vaping the Green LED will gradually brighten
  • When attaching the pod to the device the LED will flash Green
  • When the battery reaches low capacity the LED will flash Green ten times
  • If over vaping occurs, the LED will flash Green twice
  • If a short circuit occur the LED will flash Green once

How To Charge The Voopoo Doric Q

Note: The Voopoo Doric Q pod kit does not come with a type C USB charging cable.

The charging rate is specified as 1A.

  • Using a USB type C cable connect the small end into the USB port on the mod.
  • Charging the Voopoo Doric Q pod kitConnect the large end of the cable into a suitable USB outlet.
  • Whilst charging the LED will be illuminated in a solid Blue colour.
  • When fully charged the LED will be a solid Green colour.

How To Fill the Voopoo ITO Pod

Note: This device works entirely on auto draw. Please do not attempt to try the device before first filling with E-liquid. You’re likely to scorch the cotton and you won’t get rid of that nasty, burnt taste.

  • Carefully remove the pod from the battery section
  • Remove the protective sticker from the base of the pod
  • Locate the fill port on the side of the pod and gently lift it open
  • Insert the bottle nozzle into the fill chamber of the pod and squeeze E-liquid in
  • Filling the ITO pod of the Voopoo Doric Q pod kitReplace the fill tab ensuring a firm seal
  • Snap the pod back into the battery section
  • Let the E-liquid soak into the cotton for around five minutes before vaping

How Does the Voopoo Doric Q Pod Kit Perform?

I tested the pod kit using a 50VG/50PG E-liquid in the form of IVG’s Darren Till Ground N Pound Berries.

My first impression was that the airflow was slightly too airy to be classed as a classic MTL vape. It is possible of course but I found I wasn’t dragging enough vapour into the mouth during inhale. Not in a natural way – as in the draw from a cigarette, if you like.

So I often found myself restrictive lung vaping which isn’t really the purpose of the Doric Q.

When it came to flavour there was very little to fault. The mixed berries of the profile being rich, concentrated and very tasty with every vape. The Koolada pretty much lays dormant but that may be down to the power constraints of the sealed 1.0ohm coil.

The vape can also be a bit wet tasting and that’s something else I picked up on with my first impressions.

It’s a smooth, quiet and turbulent free vape and snap, crackle and pop from the coil is minimised.

Vapour production works hand in hand with flavour replication – very good and highly consistent. A MTL vape produces the same volume as cigarette smoke while that restricted lung hit actually delivers more than I expected.

The auto draw works a treat. It never once let me down, responding to the gentlest of inhales every single time. So in other words, hyper sensitive which is great.

Battery Performance

I did notice a slight change to the clarity of flavour as the day wore on – as the battery was depleting. It’s nothing major and the difference is subtle. Since the LED remains green at all times it’s quite difficult to pinpoint exactly when the changes occur.

The battery held up for a respectable 15.5 hours. Given I was vaping quite heavily that’s none too shabby. I estimate to have vaped around 5ml of E-liquid.

So I could quite confidently suggest a single charge will last the newer vaper a good few days.

It takes around an hour to recharge the Doric Q and if patience isn’t a virtue it’s still possible to vape while doing so. The LED remains a solid Blue while charging and switches to Green when fully revitalised.

ITO Anti Leak Structure

It’s difficult to say how well the tech deals with potential condensate. There’s no way of knowing since the coil is firmly sealed into place.

So for this reason alone I wouldn’t expect to encounter any leaking.

The ITO pod is proof of that.

Not a single drop on the underside of the coil. The inside of the battery was bone dry throughout use.

Pros

  • Good flavour and vapour production
  • Doesn’t leak
  • Easy to refill
  • Portable and pocket friendly
  • Fast one hour pass through charging (vape while charging)
  • Hyper sensitive auto draw
  • Great battery life

Cons

  • A bit on the airy side for a classic MTL vape
  • No way of gauging current battery strength
  • No type C USB charging cable included

Final Review Verdict

One of the major plus points to the Voopoo Doric Q is the portability. It’s light and relatively compact. A few stealthy MTL vapes is incredibly easy to pull off.

Filling the pod is also a breeze. I found the silicone tab very easy to work with. Consequently an empty pod took seconds to replenish – without leaking.

Generally speaking, the flavour quality is great but I would advise only using E-liquid with a 50VG/50PG ratio. The tiny 1.0ohm coil is going to struggle wicking anything that’s blended thicker.

I think the only negative is with the airflow itself. There’s just a tad too much to deliver what I’d personally describe a classic MTL vape.

Whether that’s a game changer for the brand new vaper is hard to say. Since the airflow encouraged me to vape restrictive lung style the chances are a new vaper may struggle.

I’d personally suggest the Voopoo Doric Q pod kit to an existing casual vaper. Moreover, someone looking for a financially viable alternative to disposable vapes.

You’re also going to get battery life for days. Can’t be bad!
