I am so excited as I have got my hands on the lovely new Horizon Falcon 2 Tank!
falcon 2 main image

The original Horizon Falcon Tank was an absolute beauty and was a massive game changer at the time of average performing sub ohm tanks. This was followed by the Resin version and then the epic Falcon King!

Horizon were also a bit experimental with their wicking materials too and added a wonderful mesh coil to the original kit.falcon versions

Well the second version of this classic is singing from the same hymn sheet thankfully!

As someone who said the flavour and vapour on the original version compared well to som of the best RTA’s so I have high expectations from this little stunner!

What Can We Expect From The Horizon Falcon 2 Tank?

The main appearance differences are the fact that there is an ornamental centre piece which covers up the coil and the top cap has a sliding action and arrow marking.

falcon 2 banner

A big change for this generation is the coils. They are not compatible with older Falcon coils as this has a push in pull out coil system.

Therefore the coils are easier to install and Horizon say the chamber should seal when you remove the coil to prevent any liquid in the tank from coming out! (This is mentioned in the marketing goo but didn’t appear to be correct in real life!)

This time around you only have 1 coil option – you get two of these in the kit and they are called the “Sector Mesh”.

These are 0.16ohm mesh coils and the mesh has a conical shape (similar to the recent OFRF NexMESH Tank).

Apparently this conical arrangement acts like a funnel to help concentrate the vapour into a smaller area on its way up to the drip tip.falcon 2 coils

By the way some of the marketing info says the coils are 0.14ohm but there is 0.16ohm stamped on the coils so I will go with that.

There are 5 colours to choose from: Carbon Black, Stainless Steel, Blue, Rose Gold and Rainbow.falcon 2 colours

I received the Falcon 2 free of charge for review purposes and as always will report back honestly on my findings of the device in my possession!

Right let’s get stuck in!

Build Quality & Design

I received the Horizon Falcon 2 Tank in the Rose Gold colour and like you reading this I also was wracking my brains as to what mod would pair well with this!

So I decided to have a little fashion show – see below.

Falcon 2 fashion show
L-R: Smoant Naboo, Augvape VTEC, Augvape V200, Smok Mag Grip, Uwell Nunchaku, Uwell Nunchaku 2, Tesla Punk 85W, Voopoo Alpha One and Tesla Punk 86W

Anyway the conclusion is that none of my mods really suit this very well so I am sorry if this review hurts your eyes.

I think a kind of brass or bronze style mod might work with this colourway? I decided to go with the Smoant Naboo for this review as it is a dual battery mod with suitable output for this tank!falcon 2 on naboo

Packaging and Instructions

The tank came in the familiar plastic tube packaging which works well – apart from one thing…falcon packaging

The tank was stuck to the upper platform of the packaging with stickers and this did leave residue on the base of the tank sadly. I did manage to get it off eventually by scraping.falcon sticker marks

As usual the contents were spot on – spare O-rings, spare glass and another coil – lovely jubbly!

As to instructions – there weren’t any? Not in my kit anyway? Not great that – but I will tell you how to do all the maintenance and start up stuff further in my review!

Tank

This is a very very pretty tank and the shine from it – put it this way I was struggling to get photos which didn’t have my reflection in – it shines so much!falcon 2 side view

Mine came with the 5.5ml bubble glass installed and this looks great – not too wide and tall enough not to look silly if you get me!falcon 2 top view

The drip tip is a resin style and on mine is a pinky/beige resin colour. Other 810 drip tips with or without O-rings fitted perfectly in here – nice and tight too so won’t fall out on you!falcon 2 drip tips

This time around Horizon have installed a slide top fill cap. I know what you are thinking as some tanks such as the Freemax Mesh Pro have had issues with this cap sliding open at really unwelcome moments and spewing liquid into bags and pockets etc.falcon 2 dismantled

Well the slide on this has a lot of resistance. There is a marking on the cap of a small arrow and you do need some effort to push this across thankfully.falcon 2 fill port arrow

For some reason filling this was a bit difficult:

a) Bigger bottles with short nozzles were a struggle – even removing the drip tip didn’t help much

b) A lot of bubbling back out of the tank when filling – like an airlock?falcon filling issue

Horizon seemed to hint at the fact you could pull the coil out without any leaking from the e-liquid chamber so I assumed some kind of seal such as on the Aspire Tigon Tankfalcon 2 coil sealing

Well as you can see there is no valve to seal here! It is just an open tank when you remove the coil! If you tip the tank upside down for coil changes though you should be fine.falcon 2 coil removed

The base of the tank just has all the branding and legal logos – oh and some remnants of sticker…falcon 2 tank bottom view

Airflow

The bottom airflow ring turns to expose or cover the 3 airflow inlet slots.falcon 2 airflow holes

This is generally easy to turn – but can be a bit stiff sometimes – whilst turning this you can unscrew your tank from the mod!

Fully closed there is still airflow but on a slightly open setting you can get a good restricted DTL airflow. Fully open the air gushes through and I swear I was hoovering crumbs off the desk with it.

Horizon Falcon 2 Quick Set-up Guide

The tank arrives fully assembled with a coil installed, but I usually do check everything is correctly put together having had many tanks leak straight out of the box!

So you need to just fill it up and select a suitable mod to use it on.

As the coils are only 0.16ohm resistance you will need a device that can output around 70-75W as a guide.

Single battery mods can often do this but you will be guzzling up the battery life and possibly stressing the battery.

A single 21700 mod or a dual 18650 mod should be a good point to start. You can check out some options in our best box mod guide.

Oh and it is 25mm diameter at the base so mods which have restrictions on tank sizes such as the Eleaf Pico wouldn’t be suitable.

falcon 2 componentsHow To Fill The Horizon Falcon 2 Tank

  • Find the arrow marking on the top cap.
  • At this point push the top cap across to reveal the fill port – it does have quite a bit of resistance so you might have to push harder than you expected.falcon 2 slide top cap
  • Add e-liquid through the fill port. If it is hard to get the nozzle to reach you can remove the drip tip to help.falcon 2 filling
  • Watch the e-liquid level through the glass.
  • Slide top cap closed when filled.
  • If using a new coil or for the first fill leave to stand for a good 10-15 minutes to make sure the coil is fully saturated with e-liquid to avoid an evil dry hit!

How To Change The Coil Head

  • If you have e-liquid remaining make sure to turn the tank upside down.falcon 2 bottom cap removed
  • Remove the base of the tank by unscrewing.
  • If a coil is installed simply pull this out from the tank assembly.falcon pull out coil
  • The new coil pushes in and does stand proud slightly as shown when fully installed.
  • Replace the tank base.
  • Add e-liquid as described above and leave to stand before use.

How Does the Horizon Falcon 2 Tank Perform?

I loved the original Falcon Tank but found it quiet leaky.

It appeared to me to be down to the wicking of the mesh coil – after a few days of use the coil would leak. Change the coil and all would be fine again – for a few days.

So I assumed that the wicking material must sag over time. Then allowing the e-liquid to leak through the airflow inlets as the leak was always cured by simply changing the coil.

So with this in mind I filled up the Falcon 2 and left it on an atty stand for a few days. Oh yes, learned my lesson the hard way when it comes to leaky tanks killing my mods!

After 3 days not a drop had leaked and it earned my trust enough to be used on a mod! As mentioned above I chose the Smoant Naboo to run this tank on.

I have refilled this 3 times so far and still not a single leak – so massive points in the bag for this version of the Falcon.

Sector Mesh Coil Performance

falcon 2 coil viewsThere is only one coil option for this tank at present the 0.16ohm Sector Mesh.

Coil Number 1

For testing I used a lovely e-liquid – Candy Labs Cherry (70%VG) – which I added Nic Salts to resulting in a nicotine strength of around 7mg. I also have this e-liquid in my Freemax Twister Kit and love it!falcon 2 naboo cherryThe “best” wattage recommendation is 70-75W – so I started at 65W and already this thing is impressive.

I actually didn’t go any higher than 70W as the vape is just perfection!

Tons and tons of flavour and enough vapour to fog out the room. I was a bit shocked as I have been mainly vaping with MTL tanks for the last 6 months and the plumes of vapour were surprising! Genuinely I didn’t think my lungs could handle that much vapour.

For my preference I set the airflow to about 1/3 open. I like a restricted DTL vape so this was absolutely perfect. As said earlier in the fully open setting you could be sucking furniture in through those massive airflow inlets.

Every time you vape you can see lovely little bubbles forming reassuring you that the coil has filled up ready for your next vape. Not a single dry hit in all my time using this tank.

However after 4 refills (approx 20ml) this was starting to taste burnt. Upon removing the coil it obviously was! I think this may be down to my e-liquid being a coil killer. I don’t use this e-liquid often so wasn’t sure if it would be. falcon 2 burnt coil 1

When I changed the coil I was pleased to see not a drop of e-liquid in the base cap of the tank – which is a huge surprise!

Coil Number 2

As the original coil burnt out quite early I decided to go back to an old favourite e-liquid which is very very kind to coils. I would get at least 2 weeks for a Freemax coil with this e-liquid.

So this time I am using Stika Bombz Fruit Salad e-liquid which is 80%VG and has 6mg nicotine added.falcon 2 fruit salad

Let’s see how long this coil lasts. If it is only a few refills again then I would say it definitely is the coils which have the issue. If the coil life is way better now then the e-liquid caused the premature failure of coil number 1.

Again, impressive. This is up there with one of the best sub ohm tanks for flavour and cloud – I love this tank!

E-liquid Consumption

This tank GUZZLES the e-liquid.

It must be a combination of a very efficient vaporising process using up more e-liquid plus the fact I bloody love vaping with this tank!

So I am vaping my head off and even with the 5.5ml glass installed I am topping up a lot more often that I used to with my Freemax Mesh Tanks.

Coil Life

The first coil lasted for around 20ml of e-liquid however that might be down to the e-liquid being a coil killer.

So far with the second coil I have refilled this 8 times. That equates to roughly 40ml of e-liquid (5ml per fill – I didn’t allow the tank to empty fully as there is a minimum mark). So it would appear the first coil failing was due to the e-liquid.

The flavour is as pure as anything still – I will try and update as to how long this coil does last.

Pros

  • Stunning looking tank
  • Good kit contents 2 x coils, spare glass and spare O-rings
  • Although this has a slide top fill there is plenty of resistance to pushing it open
  • Restricted DTL through to gallons of unrestricted airflow adjustment
  • Flavour is amazing – didn’t need to go above 70W!
  • Clouded out the room with the surprising amount of vapour!
  • Perfect build quality not a single leak.

Cons

  • Was quite hard to fill – the top cap doesn’t seem to open far enough for big bottles and lots of liquid pushing back out of the tank.
  • There is no seal to the tank when you remove the coil – but you can overcome this by turning the tank upside down if there is liquid in there.
  • The packaging left stickers on the base of the tank which needed scraping off
  • No instructions included in my kit?
  • Can be very thirsty on e-liquid – combination of vaporising it fully and the fact it is so lovely to vape on!

Final Review Verdict

Wow what a beautiful tank. I mean it!

I loved the Original Falcon for flavour but the leaks really made me go off it which I found a shame.

Having not one single leak from the Falcon 2 already redeemed it straight away in my eyes.

That was before I had even vaped on it!

The flavour is epic – pure, clean, smooth and you taste your e-liquid to a whole different level.

Plus fogging out the room is always a good sign of a cloud chucker.

The premature failure of the first coil I used appears to be from the first e-liquid being a coil killer. With the second coil and a known “kind to coils” e-liquid I have chugged through 40ml already and flavour is still 100%!

The only downside is you will be refilling this all the time – even with the bubble glass as you love vaping on this so much. It is also so efficient at vaporising and giving you every molecule of flavour and vapour that is possible.

In fact I would say these new Sector Mesh Coils are squeezing every potential bit of flavour and vapour from your liquid they can!

horizon-falcon-2-tank-reviewAlmost full marks - the fill cap dropped a mark for being a bit cumbersome to fill with larger bottles and lack of instructions lost another point. Otherwise this is an epic tank - epic flavour, vapour and the quality is above all else. Not a single leak and watching the bubbles soaking the coil after every vape made this a very satisfying tank!

  2. The Falcon2 is needs work it doesn’t seem to last long at dishing out flavour (about 2 days regular vaping and about the first 20 drags are quite chemically tasting)also not great at lower watts like the Falcon King..iv no issues with the filling and the tight slide open top might give me reason to stick with it for longer .. with the Falcon King they already have a tank that fixes these issues but it can pop open in your pocket when knocking the open button by accident.. hopefully the chances are they will fix the issues as I don’t wanna be putting it to the back of a drawer and be sticking only with the FalconKing or its just an expensive experiment..

  3. I’ve been using a falcon king tank for a year no issues whatsoever, just switched to the falcon 2 and the coil burnt out after two days on 60w. I was getting 6-8 days on the falcon king M1 coils. Not for me thanks!!!

  4. Hi,
I’m considering buying this mainly because everyone seems to think the flavour is brilliant with this tank. My concern is I’ve just bought a batch of juice for my endura and they are almost all 50/50. If I use them with this tank is it going to leak like crazy or is it still doable? (They claim to be usabel with any tank.) I’m excited about being able to try high VG juices but I would like to use these first (because I’m OCD like that). Also, I’m thinking this tank together with an aegis mini mod, because I’m clumsy and have small hands and I’m still a newbie and the mini seemed not overly complicated. I did some research but I’d appreciate an expert’s opinion if for any reason this combo might not work or if there is a much better combo.
    Thanks so much! 🙂

    • Personally 50/50 e-liquid will be way to thin for this tank and will probably cause spitting so I would buy yourself a bottle of at least 70% VG onwards. Also a lot of the thinner liquids have nicotine already added which will be too strong when vaped at the high wattage the Falcon 2 uses.
I would just check the maximum size atomiser the Aegis Mini will fit as this has 25mm diameter and this might be too large for the Mini. Also with it being a single battery mod running at the 60-70W this tank requires would run the battery down in no time.
If you are using the Endura I would say you are a mouth to lung vaper who uses high nicotine which is not what the Falcon 2 is designed for sadly. The Falcon 2 is for DTL vaping, high VG, low nicotine e-liquid and vaping at quite high power. Have a read of our guides which tell you more about vaping styles and e-liquid mixtures.
      Vaping Styles
      VG/PG
Perhaps look into a good pod kit where you can use the 50/50 liquids with the higher resistance coil and the higher VG with the lower resistance coil. My current favourite is the Innokin Sceptre, or you could try the Aegis Boost kit with the one kit you can try both styles and different e-liquid types to see if DTL is for you.
      Hope this helps

  5. Just bought one of these today, moved on from the falcon king. Which was a decent tank of its own, it did like to seep and leak. Which was a pain. But the button mechanism gave up after lots of wear and tear, brushing the button was enough to release to lid. Which is the last thing you need at any stage really. Loving the falcon king 2 as it stands, no issues so far. Only con I’ve noticed really, is the minimum level on these coils is quite high. Looks like it will need topping up after nearly every time its used. But we will see!!

  6. I noticed with my original falcon, thinner viscosity juices did tend to leak more often. I do not use any fruit or sweet or cream. Just a basic mint/menthol. I use SXR Carolina Mint. I get 4-6 weeks before I start to get the burnt taste. I use the extended tank with an M1 coil @ 75W, using 1.5 tanks per day. Mine has been sideways and upside down, mostly in my cut when we ride the harley. My leaking seems determined by juice. I am hesitant to try the 2.

  7. Just purchased with a Vaporesso GEN. Fitted mine with the bubble glass.

Scores top marks in all departments. No leaks and easy to fill. Taste and vapour are just ace. I think it edges the falcon king and I think it’s the new cone shaped mesh coil. It’s a bit like getting a new iPhone. Does same thing slightly better than the last with a more refined design. If you want the best and have the £ then I would recommend it for sure.

    • Thank you for this – I haven’t tried the Falcon King so was unable to compare – but I did think the Falcon 2 is amazing too! The coils are amazing!

      • Really one of the best reviews on a tank I have read. Just got the tank and I absolutely love it. I had the original falcon tank and I loved that tank and never had any leaking problems myself. I’ve been vaping for 7 years and 100 percent cigarette free 7 years now. Thank you for the awesome review.

  8. I loved my first Falcon King tank which i switched to after years of using SMOK crap that ate coils and leaked from every place possible. Enter the Falcon King 2! I was so excited to get it but have to say I am very disappointed. The new slide top is obnoxious especially when trying to fill with large bottles. It makes a mess. I also discovered after a few days of use i started getting a large amount of juice being push back up through the coil. I’ve tried multiple wattages and when set high enough to stop the raw juice the taste is burnt. Not Impressed!

  9. Hi Michelle,

I was thinking of upgrading to this from the falcon resin. My main reasons are for how it will look with my mod but it’s hard to justify that with my current one working fine.

Are there any differences in terms of the flavour between the two tanks ?

    • Hi there, am so sorry I haven’t tried the Falcon resin tank. I did have the original Falcon with the M1 mesh coils and really enjoyed it at the time, but I did find mine leaked a lot and put me off using the tank in the end.
I think the Falcon 2 is superior to the Falcon 1 and the coils are loads better. I still haven’t had a single leak either!

    • Hi there, am really sorry I haven’t tried the Falcon king tank in order to compare.
I usually vape sub ohm on either Freemax Mesh pro or Fireluke Mesh 2 (Twister kit) and I would say this surpasses those slightly in flavour – not by much as both Freemax tanks are incredible.
