The Vaporesso Forz TX80 review and the five year old Shenzen based company has been on a mission since its inception.

…That is, to go beyond the ordinary through commitment, innovation and quality.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 hand check

We could also add versatility – why?

Because Vaporesso has released starter kits such as the pen styled Orca Solo Plus, the original Gen popular among sub ohm vapers and of course, pod kits.

We reviewed the unassuming Vaporesso Osmall which performed admirably for a 350mAH pod device.

Weighing the same as a lit cig with an auto draw feature, The Vaporesso Barr is another pod kit tailor made for the new vaper. It’s quite possibly my pod kit of the year!

There’s no denying the fact Vaporesso draw inspiration from other manufacturers, often mimicking form factor. It’s a different story under the hood though as shown with the Gen Nano and Luxe II Mod which feature their proprietary AXON chip.

Then we have the Vaporesso proprietary coils…

Flax cotton and non woven fabric has proven to make a real difference to flavour quality. The GTX range of coils also offer backward compatible between Vaporesso devices.

So, yeah! I think it’s safe to add the word versatile to the Vaporesso vocabulary.

What Can We Expect From the Vaporesso Forz TX80

The Vaporesso Forz Forz TX80 kit is the first device from Vaporesso to be dust, shock and waterproof – in other words, IP67 rated. It’s taken some time but they’ve finally caught up with what’s trending at the moment.

So expect to be able to use the device in all environmental and weather conditions without too much fuss.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 Boxed

The tank makes use of the new GTR coils to take advantage of the upgraded AXON 2 chip and its f(t) mode, providing a consistent and pure flavour from the e-liquid.

Both coils have been designed for sub ohm vaping so don’t expect to be achieving MTL pulls from the Forz tank 25.

Inside the Box

I’m not sure if Vaporesso is suggesting there’s a spare silicone USB plug but it wasn’t in the review package – neither did I find a Forz badge.

Key Features

First up is that AXON 2 chip. It retains all the features of its mentor but now includes F(t) mode. As an educated guess that means the effect of temperature on flavour, but let’s not get all techy, eh?

Vaporesso describe it as providing a wider temperature range to assist with unique flavour compositions of e-liquid.

vaporesso Axon chip

..Like I said lol!

There are two versions available. The standard version which features a 4.5ml glass tank and the TPD issue with a 2ml capacity tank. Everything else included is identical.

The colour schemes are limited to the leather effect of the hand grip. The chassis, front panel and framework is the same across all.

Choose from Steel Blue, Gunmetal Grey, Imperial Red, Brick Black and Leather Brown – the one we’re reviewing.

..Happens to be my favourite of the bunch too so happy days!

Vaporesso Forz TX80 inner box

The new GTR sub ohm coils use an anti bacterial organic cotton, an extended passage for air flow and an updated leak proof structure.

The Forz Tank 25 is also brand new to the kit with plug and play coil technology, bottom airflow and a screw type top cap.

Just in case you were wondering, Vaporesso has also manufactured a companion, the Forz RDA.

Ok…

It’s time to get down and dirty, on with the nitty gritty. Before I start rambling on I’d just like to thank Vaporesso for sending the Forz TX80 kit for review.

Please note that all observations are based purely on my own experiences while handling, using, maintaining and even vaping the device lol!

Design and build quality

Vaporesso Forz TX80 Mod Section

The Vaporesso Forz TX80 mod can be purchased separately so for those interested its height is 84.6mm.

A silicone sleeve wraps around the leather hand grip and joins seamlessly to the brushed silver alloy front panel.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 front panel with screen and menu buttons

It feels very comfortable in the hand, not only because of the soft leather material. The beveling on the front panel also provides extra comfort when clasped.

The (non spring loaded) 510 pin is positioned towards the front meaning the mod can only cater for tank sizes of up to 25mm without over hang.

Other than the buttons, the top of the mod is the only area to feature a black plastic material.

The rubber material extends around the underside of the mod, surrounding the battery cap. This allows for a substantial amount of grip when placed down on a table, for example.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – O Ring Woes

A “C” shaped handle is recessed into the battery door cap and is easy enough to pull up in order to unscrew. Turning the cap anti clockwise will release the battery cap.

The issue I have is with the incorporated rubber O ring.

The battery cap and threading

After the first few turns the pressure on the O ring causes a lot of resistance. This becomes a painful process on the fingers making me wonder how long the zinc alloy handle will hold out before snapping.

It’s just as well Vaporesso has included a coin slot, making things much easier.

I do understand the O ring is part of the waterproofing design yet I also feel it could have been more user friendly, especially for those with dexterity issues.

The 18650 battery (not included) fits with the positive end facing up. A marker on the battery cap also lends a helping hand.

There’s no battery rattle when fitted and the weight factor is spot on in my opinion.

..and “Don’t break the skin on your fingers” when screwing/unscrewing the battery cap!

So this rubber “shell” not only ensures against potential damage but adds to the comfort of the Vporesso Forz TX80.

Vaporesso has incorporated a silicone plug and tab on the side of the mod, housing the type C USB port.

The USB port is recessed by approximately 5ml, the stopper is a good fit and very easy to use.

Now we move onto the front panel of the Vaporesso Forz TX80.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 Fascia

The 0.69in OLED monochrome vertical display can be flipped to suit needs while the numerals remind me of my first digital watch!

I was somewhat shocked to find the mod was already set to maximum brightness. As a consequence it doesn’t perform very well in direct sunlight.

The device handles wattage adjustment in 0.5W increments but speeds up if the button is held down. The option to round robin the power has not been included.

The raised, square fire button is approximately 11mm wide and responds extremely well. The menu rocker and mode select buttons beneath the screen are more noisy when pressed.

Navigating the Menu Functions Of the Vaporesso Forz TX80

It’s the standard five clicks to power on, five click to power off.

  • Press the fire button three times to lock or unlock the menu and select buttons. It’s still possible to vape while the buttons are locked.
  • Press the select button three times (or hold it down) to enter the mode select screen
  • Use the menu rocker to scroll through the different options. These are F(t), Pulse, Power Eco, Smart TC and DIY. You can also take a look at the system settings before reaching the exit screen.
  • Choose an option by pressing the select button.

Forz Tank 25

It’s a brand new tank with brand new plug and play coils to suit and just like the Mod is available separately. If you’re interested its dimensions are 58.2mm x 25mm.

A thick plastic frame increases the centre of the tank to 27mm, protecting the inner glass tube. It incorporates four 14mm x 9mm recessed viewing windows.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 Forz Tank 25

There’s something very reassuring about the exoskeleton approach – it works for me!

As much as I prefer bayonet style top caps, this quarter turn threaded top cap is buttery smooth and I had no trouble using it.

Inside the top cap is a hefty sealing washer.

The dual fill ports measure 10mm in width and I encountered no issues when filling with larger bottle nozzles. Just remember to take your time.

The narrow bore 810 drip tip looks proprietary with its built in O rings. There are none in the catch cup itself.

Vaporesso has also rather thoughtfully, provided a silicone cap to prevent the ingress of dust or debris. It’s useful for those working in the building or construction industry and a nice little touch, sometimes overlooked.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 gold plated non protruding 510 pin on Forz Tank 25
The gold plated 510 pin is non protruding so don’t attempt using on a hybrid device or mechanical mod!

There are three 10mm wide adjustable airflow slots on the base of the tank and the tolerances are very good.

The deck itself unscrews clockwise but I found the threads to be very crunchy on the last few turns when re-tightening – never a great sign.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 Inner chimney of Forz Tank 25

Vaporesso has omitted any doming on the inner chimney although the bore of the Forz Tank 25mm measures a mere 6mm, lining up perfectly with the new GTR coils.

How To Fit A Coil and Fill the Tank

Unscrew the base of the tank clockwise then push the coil up into the chimney section.

Make sure the O rings are firmly compressed and that everything fits securely.

It’s always best to prime the cotton before inserting the coil into the tank

That’s plug and play for ya! It really is that simple.

Unscrew the top cap counter clockwise then gently pour e-liquid into one of the two fill ports, making sure not to overfill the tank.

Replace the top cap and leave the juice to soak for around five minutes before vaping.

How does the Vaporesso Forz TX80 perform?

0.15ohm GTR mesh coil (rated 60-80W)

I used IVG Pina Colada for the purposes of testing the sub ohm coil.

It’s a 70VG/30PG ratio with freebase nicotine content.

Tank 25 GTR 0.15ohm mesh coil

I started by vaping with airflow wide open and at the lowest wattage recommendation of 60W.

A fair degree of power runs through the coil at this setting and it’s instantaneous. It provides a cool vape and cloud production is very satisfying tumbling out in a dense, swirling white mass.

On this setting it’s a relatively noisy vape but there’s no turbulence created which is good.

Flavour production is also good but not to the level of other vertical mesh stock coils I’ve tried. It’s more broader than it is concentrated.

Reducing the airflow to mid position results in a little more harshness to the exhale. Flavour quality is compromised and becomes mediocre at best.

Regardless of airflow setting the cooling agent pings along nicely at all times.

70-80W

I found very little difference to flavour output vaping at higher wattage. Moving from 60W to 70W for the first time saw juice being dumped out from the sides of the airflow and down the mod.

Thankfully that was the only time it happened.

0.15ohm GTR mesh coil and cotton

The coil definitely likes the cooling agent followed by pineapple but forces the coconut back onto the tree. Any milky, creamy tones are completely overlooked – seems dairy content is not the coils strong point.

The biggest issue I found with the coil was that it always delivered a “wet” experience on the tongue no matter which power setting I applied.

Maybe it was because the vertical mesh was under-performing higher up the coil. I’m no expert but it’s one possibility. There’s certainly no reason to doubt the 70VG/30PG ratio used.

0.4ohm GTR mesh coil (rated 40-60W)

I used Custard Jail Bird by Riot Squad to test the 0.4ohm GTR coil.

It’s another 70VG/30PG juice ratio with freebase nicotine.

0.4ohm GTR mesh coil

The flavour is quite good when vaped at the lowest recommendation of 40W and with airflow wide open.

Again, vapour production is fantastic although not quite of the same calibre as the 0.15ohm GTR coil.

At this setting very little of the fruit content pulls through and it’s a very cool vape.

Pudding elements are noticeable but clearly not responding to the lower wattage setting.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – Higher Wattage

At 50W the sweetness of the mixed fruits deliver with more clarity helping to lift the flavour. Mid vape the warmth from the coil starts to kick in and the richness of the pudding holds up very well during exhale.

This starts to become a well rounded vape with the vapour production now emulating that of the 0.15ohm GRT coil.

0.4ohm GTR mesh coil and cotton

A degree of noise is created by the pull of the vape but remains smooth as silk and with no turbulence.

Aside from improved cloud production 60W only offered a slight overall improvement to the warmth of the vape.

By now practically all the flavours are blending well including the spices providing a very broad, well rounded flavour.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – Axon 2.0 Chip Performance

Time to release the vape geek in me!

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – F(t) mode

It certainly appears the chip is able to maintain a balanced output while vaping. I tested single vapes for as long as my lung capacity could take and found no inconsistencies.

The flavours were well balanced and the temperature of the coil seemed to be regulating efficiently.

..It’s just that a full tank was vaped very quickly lol!

I then moved on to D.I.Y mode

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – Variable Wattage

To be completely honest I noticed no difference between the three start up speeds (soft, normal or hard start). The mod was firing instantly on all settings.

I noticed no difference to ramp up times. It was responding as fast as the Voopoo Gene chip, for example. Any difference to flavour or vapour production was negligible.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – Smart Variable Wattage

This was another part of the Axion 2.0 chip I couldn’t quite fathom out.

No matter what tank, RTA or RDA I screwed on and regardless of coil resistance, the device failed to select anything other than 40W as a recommended output.

Variable Temperature Control

Since I don’t use stainless steel or titanium the mode was not reviewed.

Variable Voltage

It works like a dream with differences between single voltage steps being instantly recognised for the power being passed through the coils, resulting in a cool to warm vaping experience depending on voltage output.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – Super Player

I don’t vape at resistances between 0.03 – 0.05ohm so this mode wasn’t reviewed.

Bypass Mode

You never forget the hit of a fully charged battery in bypass mode!

This mode saw the mod functioning efficiently as the battery strength drained.

It’s pretty much the same experience as that of a mechanical mod. It’s also the mode that really highlights the need for a 21700 battery.

It seems the Axon 2.0 chip does a good job in bypass mode.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 – Smart Variable Wattage

I’m really not sure about the smart variable wattage mode at all!

Why? It doesn’t appear to respond to any tank screwed down on it.

handcheck2

The only time it worked was when I replaced the 18650 battery.

Even then it decided that 40W was the best setting for the coil. Every time.

Issues Using Other Tanks

This one bugged the hell out of me!

Whenever I tested the mod with other tanks, RDA’s or RTA’s they were recognised instantly. The device scanned them, accepted them and everything was rosy in Neil’s vape garden.

As soon as I threw the Forz Tank 25 back on, the mod displayed “check atomizer“!

Madness.

The common denominator with all other tanks was in their protruding 510 pins.

Since the 510 connector of the mod is not spring loaded, have I inadvertently depressed it too far in?

It’s a possibility but this would then render the mod incompatible with anything other than the included tank.

Pros

  • Ergonomic. Extremely comfortable in the hand
  • Fantastic firing speed
  • Raised fire, menu and select buttons work a treat
  • Both coils provide a decent, broad flavour quality
  • Insane vapour production!

Cons

  • Poor threading on the deck of the tank
  • Loss of flavour quality with airflow restriction
  • Some of the Axion chip functions appear to be ineffective
  • Very tight O ring tolerance on the battery cap
  • Poor display visibility in direct sunlight
  • On occasion the Mod refuses to identify the Forz Tank 25

Final Review Verdict

Vaporesso has supplied us with two new coils for this kit. One of which has sensible resistance parameters and one that will push the limits of the single 18650 battery.

To compound this, maximum wattage restrictions will limit the capabilities of any RDA or RTA used and again, the battery life.

For this reason it would have been nice to see the device released as a single 21700.

The device powers on as soon as the battery is inserted, something I’m not over keen on. It’s readings of both GTR coils was a little off too, but that’s just me being picky.

I only suggest using the USB port for device upgrades. Always use a dedicated charger when using 18650 (or any external) batteries.

Coil Comparisons

There was very little to differentiate between the two for flavour and both performed their jobs adequately. The 0.4ohm GTR coil edged it for flavour.

However, the 0.15ohm GTR coil was constantly troubling me with a very saturated vape. At times it felt as though juice wasn’t being vaporised enough.

That wasn’t an issue with the 0.4ohm GTR coil, providing a natural all round vaping experience.

Yet with both coils the flavour qualities swiftly diminished with any airflow restriction. I prefer a restrictive direct lung vape so that was disappointing.

Generally speaking, both coils are ideal for those that enjoy a good all round, broad flavour experience. If you class yourself a flavour connoisseur you may need to look elsewhere.

Forz Functionality

Overall, the Vaporesso Forz TX80 kit performs well in terms of mod functionality.

Menu navigation is very easy to use and all buttons are responsive, and the device fires instantaneously which is awesome.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 raised buttons on Mod

I quickly found variable voltage mode to be the most effective and used it for the majority of the reviewing period.

As mentioned, some of the other modes aren’t for me and variable wattage mode failed to make any difference in terms of firing speed.

Without a doubt the coils are designed for a loose, open and airy direct lung vape because that’s where they really shine – delivering a good flavour experience with stupid levels of cloud production.

I would recommend E liquid strengths of between 70VG/30PG – High VG with both coils.

Build Quality

Starting with the battery cap. The O ring tolerances are just too tight for average fingers to deal with. If you use the hinge your finger tips will soon be hurting!

As previously alluded to, the threading between the tank and deck section is crunchy during the last few turns. This lead to the inevitable stripping (not me, the threads!).

They still seal adequately enough (reliant on a well placed O ring) but any attempts to tighten securely causes them to skip out of position. Quite frustrating.

Vaporesso Forz TX80 Review Summary

In terms of ergonomics, the Vaporesso Forz TX80 sub ohm kit is exceptional.

It’s one of those device that you instantly feel at home with. You also know  it’s going to withstand a few knocks along the way thanks to the IP67 rating.

However, the battery cap and the threading on the base of the tank really lets this one down.

There are some features to the Axion 2.0 chip that really work well. Others are lost on me. It’s never a good sign when a mod doesn’t recognise the tank its been specifically targeted for.

With airflow set wide open, the Vaporesso Forz TX80 kit works well, yet again falls short when applying a semi restrictive direct lung setting.

Overall it feels like a case of aesthetics over performance with the Vaporesso Forz TX80 kit.

vaporesso-forz-tx80-reviewBased on ergonomics, Vaporesso return with one of the finest sub ohm kits of 2020. Unfortunately it's also hampered by build quality issues. I found the new Axon 2.0 chip to be hit and miss and the tank only delivers good flavour with the airflow fully open. With more cons than pros the Vaporesso Forz TX80 fails to stand out in a crowd full of sub ohm kits.
