With the Vaporesso Gen Nano the clue is in the title, it is the Vaporesso Gen, but smaller.

Apart from the tank it is almost identical. It’s almost as if somebody shrunk it in the wash.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit with the gtx tank 22

Vaporesso has only been around since 2015 however its parent company SMOORE, has been around since 2006.

They are pretty big in the industry, if you’re wondering how big, well they claim to have 13 factories in which they have “13000 workers who produce over 2 million batteries, over 20 million atomizers, and over 100 million coils annually”… Pretty big then.

Although I don’t think Vaporesso is one of the brands that pop to mind when thinking about the biggest brands in the vape industry the have certainly got a few popular devices including the Tarot, Swag and of course the Gen.

I recently reviewed the Target PM80, and that was pretty decent, for a short while it was my favourite pod mod.

What Can We Expect From The Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit?

As we have established, it is a smaller version of the Gen; which was a popular kit in it’s own right.

Vaporesso claim the kit to be “the power wonder in your pocket.”

Vaporesso Gen Nano mod bottomIt’s powered by a 2,000mAh battery, runs between 5-80w with a 0.91” OLED Screen and take a 2A charge!

Perhaps the most noticeable difference is the tank. The original Vaporesso Gen kit comes with the SKRR S Tank and the Vaporesso Gen Nano kit comes with the GTX Tank 22.

As the name suggests this rather well suited tank, takes the GTX coils, which are quite popular.

Design and Build Quality

As we have established this little power beast has a remarkable resemblance to the original Vaporesso Gen, apart from it is so small!

The kit comes in 6 different colours: Silver, Black, Blue, Red, Green & Purple.

The Vaporesso Gen Nano Mod | Battery

Lets start with the ‘Ergonomic Grip’, there is two key features at play here.

First of all the sides of the device are slightly curved which means it fits the hand nicely regardless of how you want to hold it.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit mod size

Secondly is the rubber coating which is pretty much unnoticeable, it feels like this ultra smooth, almost oily, tough plastic.

Although it makes it super nice to hold, the rubber coating plays a more important role. It’s that coating the makes the device scratch and finger print resistant, and obviously it looks awesome!

I only wish the buttons were as durable. After only a few days (3 or 4) the rose gold colour has chipped off the button which isn’t great.

Although I must stress, I am adamant that this is due to it rubbing against things in my pocket and not just general wear from my thumb.

The Vaporesso GTX Tank 22

Measuring in at less than 5cm tall and 2.2cm wide it is so small.

Unfortunately smaller kits and tanks lack features, most of the times I fly past it like it doesn’t matter, but this time I can’t do that.

Vaporesso the gtx tank 22 - Gen Nano Kit

The Vaporesso GTX Tank 22, doesn’t have a top fill system. Well, it does, but you have to completely remove the top cap and fill the tank that way. I expected better to be honest, especially from Vaporesso, in this day and age.

Now I did intent to fly past this and fob it off by saying “well if you want smaller you have to make sacrifices”, however the more I think about it, the more I think there is no excuse not to add a proper top fill system – plenty of small MTL tanks do, most of which are smaller than this tank.

Other than that I can’t really fault it, it still holds 3.5ml of liquid, with it’s bubble glass, it looks cool and it suits the mod.

Most importantly it is built well, threads, airflow, drip tip, all decent.

Vaporesso Gen Nano – Mod Features

Usually small kits, especially smaller versions of other kits, lack a lot of features and we’ve already established the tank lacks a viable top fill feature.

However the Gen Nano Tank is crammed with features, it was actually a really pleasant surprise.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit with the gtx tank 22

Let’s take a closer look at the features and what they’re supposed to do.

  • Pulse mode: Provides a constant voltage output “delivering optimal flavour production, nicotine satisfaction and perfect temperature”.
  • Power Eco Mode: When the battery level gets below 40% and is unable to produce the set wattage, the mod will automatically provide an option to enter Power Eco Mode for increasing endurance. (automatic switching can be enabled disabled via the system settings).
  • Smart Temperature Control Mode: “When the temperature heating wire (SS/Ti/Ni) is detected, the device will provide an option to enter the STC mode automatically”.
  • DIY Mode: You can choose traditional VW, VV, VT, CCW Bypass or Super Player modes. “When the coil resistance is extremely low, the device will provide an option to enter SP (Super Player) Mode automatically.
  • Dry Protection: The device detects insufficient e-liquid remaining. This is for Smart TC Mode only.
  • Smart VW: In the System settings. This recommends a power setting to use your coil at.

See, I told you there was a lot. In the menu there is also a System Set (settings) that includes things like puff counter, brightness, flip screen,

Vaporesso Gen Nano Screen

The screen is 0.91” OLED and it’s pretty basic, in a good way.

In the top left we have the battery indicator, which uses percentage, I love that.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit screen with the gtx tank 22

Below that is the resistance reading and puff count.

In the center is the power setting and on the right is the current mode settings, and it even tells you what the coils recommended ‘Best’ VW power is.

In the system settings you can flip the screen which I think is a simple but pretty cool feature. Flipping the screen also flips the up/down buttons, which is obviously useful.

The Vaporesso Gen Nano – GTX Tank 22 Airflow

The Vaporesso GTX Tank 22 has 3 airflow slots, when the adjustable airflow is fully open, it provides a nice loose Direct To Lung airflow.

It’s not restriction-less, but it is pretty close, it’s pretty impressive for such a small tank.

The grid pattern on the airflow band makes it nice and easy to adjust.

Vaporesso Gen Nano – Micro USB Charger

You know what I’m going to say, Why? Oh why would you choose the Micro USB over USB-C?

>With that tiny bit of frustration out of the way, there is two very good things about the Micro USB Charging on this device.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit with the gtx tank 22 charing port

First of all, it takes a 2A charge rate which is obviously great!

Secondly, the location of the charging port is always a tricky bit on a device. It’s a bit like a registration plate on a car, It’s essential but it looks so much better without it.

On the Vaporesso Gen Nano, the Micro USB port is on the side in the bottom left corner.

If you remember back to what the devices look like, all except the Silver go to black on the bottom and it’s this that makes the design so smart. It almost completely hides the port.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Mod Buttons

The Vaporesso Gen Nano mod has 4 buttons, The fire button, ‘-’/ ‘+’ buttons and a mode button (located below the ‘-’ / ‘+’ buttons).

I think the addition of the Mode button was a good call. It looks good but more importantly it makes operating the mod and changing through the functions, so much easier.

I half heartedly say the buttons are great… why half heartedly?

Well, they feel sturdy, they don’t rattle and they are easy to press, however, as you may have seen the fire button has lost it’s colour on my kit.

As I previously stated, I’m sure this is due to it being in my pocket with other devices and keys and such but regardless, after 3 days it’s unacceptable.

It has majorly let the rest of the device down.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Quick Start

How To Fill The GTX Tank 22

  • Holding the base and glass, Unscrew the top cap
  • Fill the tank with Liquid – between the glass and coil
  • Reattach top cap

If the glass lifts from the base of the tank, the liquid will leak out as you fill it.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit with the gtx tank 22 top fill

If filling the tank with a new coil, leave it for 5 minutes to allow the liquid to soak in to the coil – known as ‘priming your coil‘.

How To Change The GTX Tank 22 Coil

  • Holding the Tank Upside down, Unscrew the bottom cap
  • Pull out the coil from the bottom of the tank
  • Push in new coil
  • Reattach base.
  • Fill with liquid and leave upright for 5 minutes.

How does the Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit Perform?

GTX 0.2Ω MESH coil

I’ve used this coil with 3 different flavours, Just Juice Kiwi and Cranberry, I wasn’t really impressed with the flavour output for this flavour.

vaporesso gtx 0.2ohm mesh coil.

Then I topped it up with the Got Salt Peachy Promise and again, despite this being the flavour I usually test devices with, I wasn’t impressed.

Finally I settled on the Juccier Strawberry Mango Crush, It is exactly what it says on the tin; mixed at 70VG/30PG with zero nicotine.

This coil is recommended to be used at 45-60W and the smart VW suggests 55W.

Starting way down low, at 35W you get a small thin cloud and not much flavour, although you can taste the strawberry and mango.

At the lowest recommended wattage, the coil produces a fairly thick, medium sized cloud, that is pretty impressive for 45W. The flavour is prominent but not impressively so.

55W is what the mod recommends for this coil, and it’s here where the flavour is plentiful but still not flooding the mouth. The vapour production is thick and produces a small to medium sized cloud.

To the top of the recommended wattage range, at 60w the flavour is a prominent, full mouth flavour, It almost floods the mouth but not quite. It is still rather satisfying and you still get a small but thick cloud.

Throughout using this coil the vapour was nice and smooth.

And the flavour from the 50/50 liquid didn’t seem as prominent as the 70/30 liquid, which I find a little strange.

GTX 0.6ohm MESH coil

Yum Yum! This coil is recommended to be used at 20-30w and the smart VW suggests 22W.

vaporesso gtx 0.6ohm mesh coil

I used strawberry Mango crush with this coil.

Down under at 15w you get a small, thin cloud that carried a prominent and ample amount of flavour.

20W is the lowest recommended wattage and it’s awesome for flavour. The flavour almost floods the mouth and the vapour production has gotten thicker, but it’s not particularly thick.

22W is what the mod recommends and although we’ve only gone up 2w the cloud does seem to be fairly thick now and the sweet flavour of strawberry and mango is beautifully flooding the mouth.

Top of the recommended range is 30w and here it seemed to struggle a bit. The coil produces a decently thick but small cloud of vapour however the flavour dropped a lot.

The Got Salt Peachy Promise (50/50) actually comes through OK on this coil, again not as good as the 70/30 but the flavour does come through nicely.

GTX 1.2ohm Regular coil

This coil doesn’t come with the kit but I was sent some coils, so here we go…

vaporesso gtx 1.2ohm regular coil.

This coil is recommended to be used at 8-12w and the smart system suggests 10w.

First of all, I tried this coil with the 70/30 Juccier Strawberry Mango Crush Mouth To Lung vaping.

I didn’t expect this coil to handle this thicker liquid too well but it did… really well. The flavour was a whole mouth awesome vape throughout all the recommended power ranges, obviously 11w being the best for flavour.

I’m really impressed.

Because the coil is 1.2ohms I presume it it designed to be used with 50/50 juice, so I cracked out the Got Salt Peachy Promise again.

At 5w there isn’t much to talk about and at 8w with the airflow turned all the way down, there is a hint of flavour but it’s very faint.

Up at 12W you get a cigarette like amount of vapour and the flavour is pretty prominent. However I do think the coil performed a lot better with the 70/30 juice.

Vaporesso Gen Nano – Airflow

The airflow is decent, however, it is incapable of providing a true restrictive Mouth To Lung experience; even with the airflow fully closed.

vaporesso gtx coils

Credit where it is due though, the GTX Coils have different sized airflow holes; the lower the recommended wattage the smaller the hole.

This is something I’m glad to see, I’ve often wondered why more brands don’t do this for All In One Devices.

Vaporesso Gen Nano – Charging

As I said, it annoys me that despite USB-C being the newest USB, devices still use Micro-USB. However I think I can over look that this once.

Like we’ve discussed, Vaporesso has done a brilliant job at ‘hiding’ the port but more than that, the cable that comes with the kit has a metal protection cover and a spring coil at either end to protect the wire.

Vaporesso Gen Nano Kit with the gtx tank 22 charging

It gets better than that! While charging the device, it actually tells you how long it will be until the device is fully charged! How awesome is that?

Even better, It has a 2A charge, so it could be fully charged in an hour!

Wow! What more could you ask for?

Oh, if you did want more, it also supports pass through vaping, so you can use it while it charges.

Vaporesso Gen Nano – Battery Life

There are so many coils with different wattage recommendations, so lets just look at a few.

If you use the 1.2ohm regular coil at 12w you will get roughly 1,100 x 2 seconds puffs… That’s over 36 hours of use if you have a 2 second puff every other minute!

If you use the 0.6ohm Mesh coil at 30w you will get roughly 440 x 2 seconds puffs… That’s over 36 hours of use if you have a 2 second puff every other minute!

If you use the 0.2ohm Mesh coil at 60w you will get roughly 220 x 2 seconds puffs… That’s over 7 hours of use if you have a 2 second puff every other minute!

Not to forget the capability to be fully charged within an hour!

GTX Tank 22 Leaking

I don’t think the tank has leaked as such but there has been excess liquid on the tank and I think this is due to the filling system than anything else.

Pros

  • Capable of awesome flavour
  • Looks Great
  • Full of Features
  • Ultra Small
  • Ergonomic Grip
  • Easy to use and navigate
  • Fast Charge & decent battery
  • Available coils vary from 8-60w

Cons

  • Colour on fire button wore away
  • Airflow could be more restrictive
  • Battery is built in

Final Review Verdict

I like it, I like it a lot.

It is small but still packed with features. I’d like to see a coil that performs nicely at 80W but I suppose that might be a bit of a waste of power for a 2000mAh mod.

It feels good in hand, the mod feels nice and durable.

If there’s anything that has let the entire kit down, it is purely the lack of a top fill feature.

If there is anything that has let the mod down it is the colour wearing off of the button.

I’ve really enjoyed using it.

vaporesso-gen-nano-kit-reviewI rated the tanks design quality down to 6 because of the top fill, although it's harsh, in the grand scheme of lay out of the scoring, I think it's fair. Functions and display are 10. The mod is [unexpectedly] cram-packed with functions. The display is very basic. does a basic display deserve less points. Over all I decided 10 was fair and well deserved. The 0.2ohm could be better in my opinion, especially in regards to flavour. The other 2 coils, are either MTL or borderline DTL so I summarized rather than keeping them separate

    • Yep should be fine – the RDA is only 22mm and the width of the Gen Nano is 24.2mm.

Unfortunately the Vaporesso Website does not specify the resistance limits and there is no manual to download to check.

  1. I have this mod and the tank came with it, I have experienced leaking with the device coming from under the tank. What could be the cause of that? Its done it through several different coils.

    • Hi Candace, Depending how much/fast it is leaking, it could be a few things.

      If it is leaking fast…

Check the coil is fully pushed into the tank (an easy way to make sure this is done, is by looking at your tank with the base on, there shouldn’t be a gap between the base and the glass -see pictures in the review for an example).

Make sure the rubber O-rings are in correctly in place (there should be one at top of the glass and one at the bottom of the glass – see the pictures above).

Make sure while filling the tank you do not let any liquid get into the coil/chiney hole in the center.

make sure there is no gaps between the glass and the top cap and everything is screwed together firmly (it doesn’t need to be any tighter than finger tight, or you won’t be able to undo it.

If it is leaking slowly and constantly that could suggest (one of the above) or the liquid is too thin (please bare in mind liquids gets thinner when they’re hot – for example tanks are more likely to leak on hot days) – the thickness of a liquid is largely determined by it’s PG/VG ratio. PG is very thin compared to VG, so a 40VG/60PG liquid would be alot thinner than a 70VG/30PG liquid. As an extension to that the bigger the wicking hole (hole in the side of the coil) the more likely it is to leak with thinner liquid (If you look at the pictures above the wicking holes are alot bigger on the 0.2ohm coil than it is the 1.2ohm coil.

I can’t think of many more common reasons that the tank might be leaking. If none of the above solve the leaking issue, i would recommend you consult the shop you bought it from, if they cannot fix it, i would push for a refund because it is obviously faulty.

I hope this has helped, please let us know how you get on.

  2. I’ve bought this mod! Without the tank. I agree with your review of the mod.
I must say though, the Smart TC mode, although great in theory, is really poor in action, the accuracy is completely off. Not usable.
The Variable Temp mode isn’t too bad, if you set your own TCR value. Not great though. It’s average TC, at best.
I really like everything else about this mod! Big thumbs up. Just don’t buy it to use in TC.

  3. Hey can i ask a question? Can it use another tank with MTL style, i am new in this vaping world and couldn’t find people experimenting with it, so may you give me suggestion about another tanks that will fit in it?
Been 8 months now try to change from heavily smokers to a vapers and not a lot of friends of my are vapers.
And sorry to if my pronoun or grammar are bad cause english is not my first languages.

    • Hello Ryo,
We are always open to questions. 🙂

Yes you can use any tank that has a 510 connection (which is the vast majority of tanks).

I’d personally recommend, aspire K tanks (k lite, k1, K2 k3) or innokin zenith tanks.
