Today I’m taking a look at the Voopoo Vinci Pod SE.

Voopoo Vinci Pod SE hand check picPod kits have a tendency to become big and powerful very quickly. One minute you’re vaping on a simple starter kit the next on the likes of the Voopoo Drag H80S.

During its evolution the pod based system has broken free of its humble origins and wandered into sub ohm vaping territory. Primarily influenced by larger, more powerful coils.

Gone are the days when glass tanks and threaded coils ruled the scene. Now, in the very least they have to share the limelight with PCTG and plug and play technology.

I’m a bit of a purist. I’d sooner see pod kits rivalling basic vape pens. They’re all about simplicity, ease of use and convenience in my opinion.

So I was very pleased to receive the Voopoo Vinci Pod SE. Even more pleased to discover that Voopoo haven’t forgotten the newer vaper and that the Vinci range is still going full steam (or vapour) ahead.

What Can We Expect From the Voopoo Vinci Pod SE?

In terms of design and build quality the Voopoo Vinci Pod SE is very similar to the Vinci Pod, Vinci Q Pod and Vinci Royal Edition. If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it, I guess.

Voopoo Vinci Pod SE bannerThe differences are subtle enough that it’s compatible with all of the disposable pods of the aforementioned kits. However, the Vinci series V2 Pod of the SE boasts two new coils. Only one is included so keep an eye out for the 1.2ohm rated alternative.

Both are designed to increase flavour and induce a richer, denser vaping experience. This is helped along by the four hole inlets on the base of the pod, evenly distributing airflow to the coil.

Voopoo Vinci Pod SE airflow structure

The Vinci Pod SE relies entirely on auto draw, driven by the new generation GENE.AI chip.

It doesn’t have the manual draw of the Vinci Q Pod or the infinite airflow system of the Vinci Pod kit. What it does have is a distinct simplicity ideally suited to any fledgling vaper.

So I’m expecting a decent MTL (mouth to lung) vaping experience and an increase in flavour replication over the OG Vinci.

Packaging of the Voopoo Vinci Pod SEThe Voopoo Vinci Pod SE is available in standard format and with a 2ml juice capacity it’s also TPD compliant.

You can pick it up in a host of colours. Choose from Midnight Black, Cream Tan, Flame Red, Dawn Blue, Provence Purple, Whale Fall Blue, Coffee Brown and Forest Green (under review).

Design and Build Quality

Vinci Series V2 Pod

It’s made from the usual PCTG plastic and has the distinctive Vinci mouthpiece opening. It’s an antibacterial mouthpiece said to be 99% effective.

Voopoo Vinci Series V2 pod 0.8ohm versionThe good news is that the majority of the clear viewing window is visible. So that should reduce the number of times it needs to be removed from the battery section.

The updated Vinci Series V2 pod includes four air inlet slots on the base. These are designed to catch sufficient airflow from each direction to balance flavour and ensure a consistently smooth vape.

coil and battery contact points on the Vinci Series V2 podTo reduce leakage to the absolute minimum, the non replaceable coil has been fitted with a dual layer silicone ring. Any excess condensation is captured and recycled in the isolate room at the bottom of the pod.

It’s a top filling pod. Just snap the mouthpiece off to reveal the fill port. It’s not the largest in the world so needle tip nozzles will generally be the order of the day. The best ones to use will be of the 10ml TPD compliant types.

Fill port and air escape valve on the Voopoo Vinci Series V2 podAn air release valve is also included and will greatly reduce the chance of air becoming trapped. The number one cause of e-juice spill over. The number one headache for most vapers!

The Voopoo Vinci Series V2 pod connects to the battery section via two clips, so no magnets. As a consequence there’s some side to side movement and fails the drop test.

Battery Section

This is made from aviation grade aluminium alloy so it’s going to withstand a few knocks. Voopoo refer to the gradient colour schemes and pattern as having a ‘modern minimalistic’ appearance.

LED window on the Voopoo Vinci Pod SEI’d be inclined to agree.

Effective yet very simplistic – designed to reflect how easy the device is to use.

Two tiny airflow slots sit on either side at the top. The Voopoo Vinci Pod SE doesn’t offer airflow adjustability. What you see is what you get.

The LED indicator sits behind a small mirrored oval on the rear. The great news is we have the ability to charge the device in a standing, vertical position.

Vertical USB charging on the Voopoo Vinci pod SEVoopoo have even included a single battery venting hole on the base. This should be made compulsory in my opinion but sadly all too often omitted with lower powered devices.

The usual safety features have been incorporated and include overtime, short circuit and over discharge protections.

Quick Start Guide

How To Fill the Pod

  • Remove the pod from the battery section
  • Push the top of the mouthpiece forwards or backwards to release it
  • Locate the fill port on the top of the pod
  • Insert bottle nozzle into the fill port and gently administer e-liquid (do not overfill)
  • Filling the pod on the Voopoo Vinci pod SESnap the mouthpiece back onto the pod
  • Push the pod back into the battery section

Leave the e-liquid to soak into the cotton wicks for around five minutes prior to vaping.

NB: When filling do NOT pour e-liquid down the centre hole of the pod.

How Does It Perform?

This being a dedicated MTL device I opted for a 50VG/50PG e-liquid ratio. Just Juice Nutty Caramel was used from their Tobacco Club range. It contains 20mg salt nicotine.

I have to say right out the gate that the vape is a bit on the loose side as far as mouth to lung is concerned. I know this because at times the auto draw fails. For me, that’s a clear sign there’s not quite enough restriction.

However the flavour and vapour production is exemplary. All the nutty tones are on show and so is the underlying creamy caramel. So in this respect I really couldn’t ask for more.

I’m just wondering if Voopoo have shot themselves in the foot with the four way airflow inlet on the base of the pod. The reason I state this is because I get a very satisfactory restrictive lung hit when reverting to that style.

In fact, the 0.8ohm coil does a better job all round when vaped this way. The pod includes four relatively sizeable wicking ports too so I would suggest the coil is better suited to restrictive lung freaks like myself.

It’s also an extremely quiet vape with no turbulence created. I would imagine the coil is pumping out the maximum 15W to begin with and tapers down to 11W as the battery depletes.

When restrictive lung vaping there’s actually more warmth generated than I expected. Ok, it’s still quite cool but I was pleased with the overall experience.

Battery Performance, E-juice Consumption and Charging Time

The integrated 900mAh battery held out for a respectable 10.5 hours. During this period I checked for changes to the specular LED. After 7.5 hours it changed from green to red. It looks like this early sample version is missing the mid strength blue indicator.

That also proved to be the case with the fast type C charging. It took an hour to complete but be aware it’s not possible to have a cheeky vape or two. No pass through charging with the Voopoo Vinci pod SE – or at least with this sample.

E-juice consumption was quite heavy but then again I was restrictive lung hitting throughout. So I sunk around 5.5ml between charges.

Pros

  • Good flavour and even better vapour production from the 0.8ohm pod
  • Easy top filling system – perfect for when in a hurry
  • No leaking
  • Lightweight, pocket friendly and highly portable
  • Ability to charge in a vertical position
  • Reliable auto draw
  • Specular LED visible in direct sunlight

Cons

  • A loose MTL vape using the 0.8ohm pod
  • Juice hungry when restrictive lung vaping (subjective)
  • 1.2ohm Vinci Series V2 pod not included

 Final Review Verdict

So it’s a shame the 1.2ohm coil wasn’t included with the kit. It would’ve been interesting to see how the four way airflow structure of the pod performed. To see if there’s the necessary tightening to create an effective MTL vape.

As already stated, you’re not really getting that from the 0.8ohm version. For a restrictive lung vape I found it nigh on perfect.

The Voopoo Vinci pod SE isn’t offering anything that we haven’t already seen from this design and form factor. That’s not to say it’s lacking in performance though. Taking it under its own merits, it works an absolute treat.

I’ve reviewed the OG Voopoo Vinci Pod so the vaping question is, does the 0.8ohm pod perform better. Yes, I would say so. There’s not a great deal in it but I think the flavour, clarity and consistency of the vape is improved. The vapour production most certainly is.

voopoo-vinci-pod-se-reviewThe Voopoo Vinci Pod SE isn't bringing anything new to the vaping table in terms of appearance. We've seen this design many, many times before. However, when it comes to flavour, vapour production and ease of use it performs remarkably. This is another device that's instantly accessible to the new or casual vaper and has been purposely designed to help lower the number of smokers out there. I can only commend Voopoo on another job well done!
