One of the most popular product ranges from Voopoo is the Argus range, and the Argus P1s will be joining other established Voopoo Argus devices such as the Argus P1, Argus G, Pod SE and the Argus XT/MT.

The Voopoo Argus P1s made waves at the recent Vaper Expo UK, winning the ‘Best Pod Device’ award at the event, and there was quite the positive buzz around this pod system.

With that in mind, let’s dive in and have a closer look!

What Can We Expect From The Voopoo Argus P1s?

Voopoo’s Argus P1s is the fifth addition to their expanding Argus range of devices. It is another pod device in the vein of the Argus P1, Argus G and the Argus Pod SE, and is compatible with Voopoo’s latest version of the Argus pods.

Voopoo are touting a doubled pod lifespan from their latest, updated, version of the Argus pods, with fluffier cotton used in the coil to make your 2ml capacity pods last longer, and a mesh coil design to improve flavour delivery from the pods themselves.

The latest version of Voopoo’s Gene chipset is present within the mod, called the Gene AI 1.2 chip, which automatically regulates the power output to the pods and has all relevant safety features built in for peace of mind.

VOOPOO also have the ‘iCOSM CODE’, which is aiming to deliver what VOOPOO say is the ultimate flavour experience. In addition it promises “leak-proof design, multiple air inlets, anti-bacterial material, and excellent atomising capabilities”

An 800mAh battery is built into the device, and 2A fast charging is present so you won’t have to wait around long for your device to charge up, with Voopoo stating that it will fully charge in 20 minutes!

You can expect ease of use here, with this being a button less pod system, it is a device that is aimed at vapers who want a fuss free vaping experience.

VOOPOO have a tag line of “Go Fast, Go Far” with the P1s. Let’s see how fast and far this actually goes.

Design and Build Quality

Offering a futuristic, cyberpunk-esque style design, the Argus P1s will have eight different designs available, with Cyber Blue, Cyber Red, Creed Rose, Creed Cyan, Cyber Green, Creed Black, Cyber White and Cyber Black available at launch.

Personally I am a big fan of the designs here, I really do feel like they stand out and offer something a little different to your bog standard single coloured bar style pod device.

Measuring in at 11cm (height) x 2.5cm (width) x 1.4cm (depth), the Argus P1s feels quite sleek in the hand and it is lightweight too – at only 43g this won’t be weighing your pockets down!

It is easy to grip and doesn’t feel slippery even with the plastic housing.

The Argus Pods offer a transparent viewing window which allows you to see exactly how much e-liquid you have left inside.

argus p1s body and pod

These Pods have the resistance of the coil imprinted on the silicone filling port, and ‘VOOPOO ARGUS’ on the other side of the pod. The mouthpiece of the pod has a fairly wide hole, and this seems to be the same size on both the 0.7ohm and 1.2ohm pods.

On the front of the Voopoo Argus P1s, a viewing window is present which allows you to see the Gene AI 1.2 chip, as well as an LED light indicator which flashes different colours when vaping and charging the device.

argus p1s gene chip

This also displays the current battery level, displayed with three bars, so you’ll always know how long you’ve got left to vape.

Two holes are found on either side at the top of the Argus P1s mod and each pod has four airflow intake holes allowing air to be drawn up through the bottom of the pod.

The airflow is fixed and as such there isn’t any way of adjusting the airflow, however if you fancy a tighter draw then you can always pop your finger over one of the airflow holes when vaping.

At the base of the Argus P1s, you’ll find a USB-C charging port and I will cover how to charge the device in the section below.

If you do fancy a bit of vape bling hanging around your neck then you get a lanyard included in the kit!

Quick Start

First things first, you’ll want to fill the pod, which I’ll cover in the section below.

After filling the pod and allowing it to stand for five minutes, you simply pop the pod back in and take an inhale from the mouthpiece.

You don’t need to worry about adjusting any power settings or switching the Argus P1s on or off (there are no buttons to do so anyway!), the Gene AI 1.2 chip will automatically detect the resistance of the pod and deliver the appropriate power to it.

Safety protections such as short-circuit, overcharging and low battery are all built into the device and will kick in if the chipset detects anything wrong. A five second cut off is built in so that if the Gene AI 1.2 chip detects that it has been firing for longer than five seconds, it will automatically power it off.

How To Fill The Argus P1s Pod

At the side of each pod is a silicone cover, if you peel this to one side this will expose a quite generously sized filling port. This can be a bit finicky to open especially if you have very short fingernails.

  • Simply insert the nozzle on your e-liquid bottle into the hole and fill.

  • Do ensure that you don’t overfill the pod as the excess will leak back out of the filling port.
  • Once done, simply replace the filling port cover and pop the pod into the Argus P1s mod.

If you are filling a fresh, unused pod you should let it stand for around five minutes before using it to ensure your e-liquid wicks correctly and you don’t end up having dry hits.

This will also help ensure the longevity of your pod as the cotton within the coil will be fully saturated with e-liquid.

The pods themselves have a magnetic connection and snap into place quite satisfyingly when inserting them into the P1s mod and the magnetic connection holds the pod in place firmly. I didn’t have to worry about the pod losing connection to the mod or it slipping out.

Charging

Charging the Voopoo Argus P1s is as easy as using a USB Type-C cable (you get one included in the kit), and plugging the small USB connector into the charging port on the base of the Argus P1s mod.

The LED indicator will light up to show that it is currently charging, and the battery level is indicated by three bars on the side. Once this is full, you are good to go.

The Voopoo Argus P1s offers 2A fast charging, and it will charge the Argus P1s up from flat to full in around 20 minutes, which is absolutely fantastic especially if you are in a hurry.

How Does the Voopoo Argus P1s perform?

Voopoo recommend that both pods work best with e-liquid that has a 50% PG / 50% VG mix ratio, however I did try some 70% VG / 30% PG Seriously Donuts Glazed Biscuit and Charlie’s Chalk Dust CCD3 which also has a 70% VG/30% PG mix ratio, and I had no issues with dry hits.

voopoo argus p1s review

These pods wicked these high VG e-liquids perfectly.

When using a pod system, my preference is to use 20mg nicotine salt based e-liquid as I’m still a nicotine addict after all! So, I also used 20mg nicotine salt Big Salts Sugar Donuts and Elfliq Grape during testing as well.

It is handy to have a couple of pods filled with different flavours, so that I can switch during the day and get a different flavour without needing to carry a couple of different devices around with me.

1.2ohm Pod

Starting off with the 1.2ohm pod, this provides a mouth to lung (MTL) hit with less power delivered to the coil than the 0.7ohm one.

voopoo argus p1s pod

This pod is suited to vapers that want a tighter hit, though I wouldn’t say that it delivers a tight MTL hit.

Flavour was very good from this pod, I was definitely picking up the sugary notes in my Big Salts Sugar Donuts e-liquid!

0.7ohm Pod

The 0.7ohm pod is the one if you prefer a more powerful, and cloudy vape. I actually felt that this pod delivered slightly better flavour too, and I will purchase the 0.7ohm pods again.

It suited my preference of having a restricted DTL hit, has a slightly warmer vape due to the increased power delivery, and I felt the flavour was slightly better with the e-liquids that I was using.

Pod Performance

I can safely say that I didn’t encounter a single leak from the Argus pods. I occasionally had a slight bit of condensation build up on the filling port cover, but that was about it.

And these pods really do last, I have been using both of them interchangeably for a week now at the time of writing, and they are both still going strong with no flavour drop off!

Despite being fixed, the airflow on this device is good, you do get quite generous vapour production from both the 1.2ohm and 0.7ohm pods, with the 0.7ohm pod predictably producing bigger clouds.

There is a very smooth vape from both pods too.

My personal preference was the 0.7ohm pod, I felt that I got slightly better flavour from this one and vapour production was noticeably better.

That being said, the 0.7ohm pod suited my style of vaping better than the 1.2ohm pod, as I do prefer a restricted DTL hit.

There are a number of other coils available that we have yet to try.

Battery Life

Battery life has been great on this device, the 800mAh battery has been enough to get me through the day however I found that there is a fairly noticeable drop in performance when the battery gets down to the last bar, with the vape becoming quite weak at this point.

It will do in an emergency, but by this point you’ll probably want to get to a power source as quickly as you can to charge the Argus P1s up!

However, the fast charging really is a bonus and has me back and vaping at full power on the P1s in no time at all. VOOPOO claim a 20 minute charge time and it wasn’t far off.

Pros

  • Excellent, smooth, flavourful vape
  • Pods last for ages!
  • Pod design allows you to see exactly how much liquid is left
  • Funky, attractive designs
  • Competitively priced
  • Fast charging is fantastic
  • No leaking or spit-back from the pods

Cons

  • Fixed airflow
  • No option to manually set power output
  • Side filling port cover can be a bit fiddly
  • 5 second cut off may be short for those that like long, slow inhales
  • Weak vape when down to the last battery bar

Final Verdict

Not only is the Voopoo Argus P1s one of the best looking, if not the best looking (in my opinion) pod devices that I have used, the Voopoo Argus P1s delivers one of the most flavourful vapes that you will get from a pod system.

A special mention must go to the pods, as aside from offering very good flavour, they provide a really smooth vape for both MTL and DTL vapers, albeit with the caveat that the DTL hit is on the restrictive side.

The 0.7ohm coils provide a pleasing amount of vapour but don’t go entering any cloud competitions with this device!

Also, the lifespan of these pods is excellent. You really do get good mileage out of these pods, which will save you money in the long run and create less waste.

You can’t really get more convenient than a device that you just fill and puff away on, the lack of adjustable airflow or wattage may irk some but for the majority of people that will be looking at purchasing this device, an easy plug and play option will be just what is needed.

Did you buy the Voopoo Argus P1s? Or will you be picking one of these great kits up? Let us know in the comments!

Vaping full time since 2012, started on cigalikes for a while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an vape pens, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I've come back to convenience and mainly use pods, disposables and the VOOPOO Drag H40. Most importantly I am still loving vaping!
