Best Temp Control Mods 2017What Is The Best Temp Control Mod? We Take A Look At Our Top Picks For 2017

2016 was an excellent year for vaping and 2017 looks set to continue.

First off with the breakout success in sub ohm tanks, and now temperature control box mod technology coming on in leaps and bounds, items hitting the market at a rate never seen before, and prices tumbling daily, the wealth of options available to consumers is overwhelming and can be a bit bewildering to some.

Offering the premise of eliminating dry hits, a much cleaner vape and longer coil lifespan Evolv kicked off the temperature control revolution with the release of the DNA40 board at the early part of last year.

Since then chips developed by Yihi among others have hit the market offering customers a huge range of different options and have helped to send prices tumbling.

The technology is advancing at a rapid rate, and I’m sure by the end of the year the list below will be totally different, especially with the imminent release of mods utilizing the new Evolv DNA200 chip, but the temperature control vape mods below are some of the best temp control mods from the year to date…

Innokin Cortex TC Mod 80W

Best TC Vape ModsThe Innokin Cortex TC is one of the newer temp control vape mods to be released on the list, and quite possibly the best for the money.

Innokin are known for their build quality and the Cortex definitely ticks that box. It has both a great feel to the touch and ergonomically fits comfortably in the hand. It’s a clean and simple mod that packs in a lot of features.

Innokin have created their own chip for the Cortex and runs Ni200 and Titanium in TC mode as well as Kanthal in wattage mode. The vape from both is impressive.

The 3300 mAh battery gives plenty of vaping time and in wattage mode reaches 80W and temp control mode 180 – 270ºC / 356 – 518ƒ. Both should be ample for most vapers. While the OLED screen is on the base of the device it is a large, clear display that can be seen properly indoors and out.

Best Temperature control modsKanger are another powerhouse of an e cig brand and one that release quality vape gear on a consistent basis.

The K Box 200 TC mod is the most powerful of a recent trio of releases, the others being 70W and 120W. It’s another simple design but don’t let that fool you. Pioneer4you IPV 4

best temp control vape modsThe IPV4 was Pioneer4You’s first attempt at a temperature control mod, and what a first attempt from P4Y it was. With an upgrade-able Yihi chip built in (a scaled down version of the same chip in the SX Mini M Class), that offers 100w of output power in VW mode and 50J in temperature control mode, as well as an easy access magnetic battery door cover and outstanding battery life from two 18650 batteries in series, the IPV4 was one of the most hotly anticipated releases of all time, with back orders taking a month or so to fulfil by vendors.

The IPV4 definitely lived up to the hype, offering outstanding reliable performance at a cheap price, and even better an upgrade was released recently offering a bump in power to 120w in VW mode, Titanium wire support and a whopping 100J of output power available in temperature control mode when using titanium wire, making it the most powerful temperature control device I have ever used.

Smok Xcube II

best temp control vape modsSMOK have previous experience in the temperature control game, having released the SMOK M80 Plus, however this release was plagued with user reported issues needing numerous firmware updates to eventually resolve. Not to mention the unnecessary upper temperature limit of 900F, which led many to believe SMOK did not understand the true intended function of temperature control…

Enter the SMOK XCUBE II. Certainly one of the weightiest mods around, but also one of the coolest and most functional too.

The SMOK XCUBE II can be paired with a compatible Android or iOS smartphone via Bluetooth in conjunction with the SMART BEC app, and this is no gimmick either, menu settings can be changed and configured, the LED on the fire button can be customized almost infinitely and you can upgrade the XCUBE II through the app among many other options.

Arguably the most important feature of this app is that the correct temperature coefficient must be entered through the app depending on whether you use nickel or titanium wire in order for temperature control to function properly!

Packing an awesome punch with 160w in standard power mode, the XCUBE II also has an extremely functional, accurate and reliable temperature control that can support both nickel and titanium modes, the XCUBE II was rated by myself as the best mod SMOK released to date, and one of the top temperature control mods out there today.

Cloupor GT

Best Temp Control ModsNow Cloupor have been widely derided by some due to safety failings with previous releases, such as the Cloupor Mini, but the Cloupor GT is the release they so badly needed to make amends for previous failings.

Cloupor’s first temperature control mod featuring a rock solid temperature control mode, constructed of 6061 billet aluminum and a gold plated floating 510 connector, no confusing menus (everything is adjusted and changed through button press combinations), featuring an excellent and reliable temperature control function and the new Smart Auto function, which means the Cloupor GT chip selects an output power for you based on the selected temperature limit.

The Smart Auto function works superbly well and offers a great, reliable vape, it’s never faltered once when I have used it.

The Cloupor GT is one of the smallest dual 18650 mods available, and one of the most powerful temperature control mods around, coupled with it’s cheap price point, clever Smart Auto mode and excellent form factor, the Cloupor GT makes my top 5 list as one I would recommend to newbies to temperature control.

SX Mini M Class

best temp control vape modsEvolv may have started the temperature control revolution with the DNA40 chip, but Yihi revolutionized it completely with the SX350J chip present in the outstanding SX Mini M Class. Despite it’s pretty hefty price tag, the SX Mini M Class was an overnight success, many retailers selling out almost instantly and even 3 months along from it’s release date, the SX Mini M Class still remains one of the top selling mods around mainly for one reason- reliability.

Offering the highest quality construction, with a premium feel you are unlikely to have ever felt with any other mod, and a chip that just never seems to falter, the SX Mini M Class is one of the few higher priced mods that truly justifies it’s price tag, personally I would have been happy paying more.

The specs on paper aren’t anything groundbreaking, and have even been surpassed by lesser price mods, but what you are paying for here is a monumental testament to design quality, class and reliability, that to date no other mod has been able to match. It really does set the benchmark when it comes to temperature control devices, and does show that power isn’t everything!

Been vaping full time for three and a half years, started on cigalikes for a fair while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an ego/ce5 set up after, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I'm still preferring mechanical mods, but using VW mods with both RDA's and tanks alike whilst on the move, most importantly I am still loving vaping!
